Days passed, Sol was still waiting for Ollie to come. Those days felt like they would never end, they felt like months. Sol just wanted to leave that place, she wanted to go back home with Ollie. Weeks went by, it felt as if Ollie would never come for her. Sol started to think something happened. It was going into two months, Sol started to give up hope.
"Why are you sad?" Damien asked.
"None of your business." Sol said. "It's your fault."
Damien seemed a little surprised. "My fault? How is it my fault?"
"Because you took me away." Sol growled. "You separated Ollie and I, and I bet she's dead. If I find out you've killed her, you will never hear the end of it."
"If you keep talking about that dog, you will never hear the end of it." Damien warned. "Now shut your mouth."
Sol sat in a corner. "You will suffer for this."
Damien ignored her, and waited by the door for the human to back home. They lived in a small, one story house. It had two doors, a front door and a back door. The back door had a doggie door that lead out to a good sized, fenced in yard. Their owner was a scientist, and he had been using Damien for experiments. Damien could heal himself from wounds and illnesses. He also recently got the ability to torture someone just by looking at them. They would suffer horrible pain, and, if he keeps it up long enough, the pain could be permanent and drive the sufferer crazy, leading them to do unspeakable acts.
Meanwhile, Ollie was back at her place, resting.
"I shouldn't have starting fighting." She said to herself. "I was weak, and now that I'm alone, I won't be any stronger when I go to get Sol. At least Damien won't be any stronger. And I'll have the element of surprise on my side."
Five months after separation, Sol lost all hope. She knew Ollie wouldn't abandon her, but she was afraid something happened to her. Maybe Damien got to her, or, maybe better, she was just having a hard time finding them. Sol was sick and tired of her father always bossing her around, she constantly thought about running away. He always had her do ridiculous things while he sat there and did nothing. Their owner didn't bother doing anything with Sol, he didn't even feed her half the time. Sol was often left outside tied up at the far end of the yard, in hot weather without shade, in rain without shelter, basically, she was abused. While she was inside, she was forced to do things for her father, she never once had a break. She was getting fed up about it, and started disobeying, and biting.
"Sol, get me my water bowl." Damien said.
"Whatever you say." Sol replied, Tossing the water bowl at him.
Damien yelped as the bowl hit his face, he looked at Sol.
"Sorry." Sol said sarcastically. "You should have been more specific."
"I know you are being sarcastic." Damien said. "Now refill my bowl."
"In case you haven't noticed, I am a dog." Sol said. "And dogs can't reach the faucet nor know how to use it."
"I don't care, just do it." Damien growled.
"No." Sol said. "I refuse to do anything else for the likes of you."
Recently, the fence had been swapped for an invisible fence. Sol went into the backyard and sat in the corner at the far end. No trees could be seen for miles, Sol figured Ollie would never find her since she was far from where they had lived. It was far from any kind of nature, not a single blade of grass was in sight. Just sand, an occasional lizard, but nothing else. The yard was fake grass, so water wouldn't be wasted.
"Sol, get back in here and do as I say." Damien growled.
Sol ignored him.
"Sol, listen to me." Damien said. "Now."
Sol turned around to face him.
"You know what, I will." Sol said, walking towards him.
She stood right in front of him.
"I will finally do what I want to do." She said, scratching him.
"What do you think you are doing?" Damien asked.
"Something I should have done five months ago." Sol growled.
"You're still going on about that? Forget it." Damien said.
"How can I forget? Ollie was my friend." Sol replied. "She actually cared about me, unlike you."
"I told you to never talk about that dog again." Damien said.
"I don't take orders from you." Sol said. "I take orders from no one."
Sol lunged at Damien, he dodge her attack and bit her hind leg. He pulled on her leg and she fell to ground. Sol looked up at Damien.
"You have proven my point." Sol said. "Ollie would never fight me, and you just did."
Damien growled and turned away. "I did not fight you. I just bit you."
"I wish you never found me." Sol said. "I should run away, I'll run and hide."
"You can't hide from me." Damien said. "I'm a dog, I can track your scent."
"Then I will run away, and I'll keep running." Sol said. "I don't want to be here any longer."
"You belong here!" Damien yelled, turning toward Sol. "Besides, you can't leave, you are wearing a shock collar, if you cross the invisible fence you'll get shocked."
"I don't care." Sol said. "I just want to get out of here."
Sol planned her escape for that night, when their owner was sleeping. Damien knew she would run off when he fell asleep, so he decided to stay up all night. That night Sol put her plan into action. The only thing that wasn't planned for was Damien, since he was still awake. Sol didn't care though, she could work with it.
"Where do you think you're going?" Damien asked.
Sol started running.
"Oh no you don't." Damien said, chasing after her.
Sol ran out outside and was immediately greeted by Ollie, who now a pair of bright red wings.
"Sorry it took so long." Ollie said. "I may have died, and I may have got wings, but I'm here now."
"Damien is after me." Sol said. "Please help me."
Damien came outside, and stopped in his tracks at the sight of Ollie.
"You are still alive?" Damien asked.
"Yes." Ollie said. "And I'm here to take Sol back."
"I'm afraid you can't do that." Damien said.
"Well guess what, you can't stop me." Ollie said.
She grabbed Sol and flew up onto the roof. They looked down at Damien.
"You can't get us up here." Ollie said.
"Watch me." Damien growled.
He started barking, which woke up his owner.
"What if someone sees you?" Sol asked.
"They can't do anything about it." Ollie said. "I can fly now, they'll never catch me."
"Birds can fly, and humans can catch them." Sol said.
"I am smarter than any kind of bird." Ollie said. "They use traps to catch birds, I can't be trapped."
Damien kept barking, waking up everyone in the neighborhood. They came out of their houses and went to see what all the fuss was about. Damien's owner looked up to see the two dogs on his roof, and started shouting to everyone, telling them to come see what he saw. Everyone looked up to see a dog with bright red, feathered wings. They were all baffled at the sight of a dog with wings, they never thought it was possible. Ollie grabbed Sol and leaped off the roof. Everyone watched as Ollie flew away, and some started making phone calls. They arrived home after two days of traveling. While Ollie took a much needed nap, Sol went hunting. She wanted to surprise Ollie by bringing back some food, since they hadn't ate during the past couple days.
