I burst through the doors of Beacon Hills Animal Clinic causing the two boys crowded in front of a metal table to jump, faces morphing from shock to fear in all of seconds.Arms crossed, I smirk, quirking an eyebrow. "Did you seriously think you two were doing this without me?"
Liam took a step forward sheepishly. "With everything that... happened.." Cue an awkward glance between Scott and I. "We thought maybe, well I thought.." Liam winces. "I was just trying to give you a day off."
Scott and I both laugh a little, glancing towards one another briefly before clearing our throats. Ignoring the other alpha, I turn to my brother, who was positively baffled as he glanced between us. "That's very sweet of you Li," Cue his indignant scowl. "But this a little bigger than any unresolved... issues."
Scott smiled briefly, looking at me with those damn brown eyes I love so much, and I ignore it, looking down at the flip phone on the table.
"So we found the phone. What now?" I query, and both boys exchange a helpless glance, and I raise my eyebrows. "Seriously? Do you guys even have a single idea?"
Liam snatches the phone from the table before hitting the Call Back button, and the ringtone sounds. Alarmed, I snap it shut, pulling it to my chest and away from the impulsive beta.
"Okay, when I said at least have an idea, I meant run it by the rest of us first." I scold.
Scott nodded, backing me up instinctively. "She's right. Do you even know what you're gonna say?"
Liam quirks an eyebrow like I usually do. '"Hello?"' he answers in a 'duh' tone of voice.
I snort. "And where would that get us?"
"We might only get one shot at this." Scott and I speak at the same time, and glance sideways at one another. I blushed, and so did he as we turn our attention back to the smirking beta.
"Oh, quit it." I scowl. " If you do call her, what are you gonna tell her?"
Liam shrugs again, and I'm really not feeling confident with his future as alpha. "I'm gonna try to get her to meet us somewhere."
I wince, noticing Scott's similar expression, shaking it off as he speaks. "Maybe that might not be the best idea.."
Liam's eyebrows draw together, and he tilts his head like a puppy. "Why? Then we'll know who they are."
I roll my eyes. "And they'll know who we are."
Liam opens his mouth to argue, but the phone suddenly rings in my hand, causing me to start and almost drop it.
"Answer it!" Liam presses eagerly, nodding at the ringing phone, and my eyes widen as I peer at him incredulously.
"You're the one who wanted to make the call, you answer it!" I toss it to him, and he grimaces, tossing it back on the table where the call ends.
Scott snorts. "Jesus Christ." he mutters, shaking his head, and pressing the Call Back, and the phone rings.
"Scott!" Liam and I complain as one, horrified.
"Beacon Hills High School, how can I-" a male voice answers, most likely the secretary, and I'm quick to hang up.
"It's someone at school." Scott states the obvious. "We might know who they are."
Liam snatches up the phone.
"Oh, please don't call aga-" I start, but am interrupted as the voicemail plays through the room, and Liam closes his eyes, focusing.
