It's now 3:00 AM and I have just woken up. I don't know how I fell asleep last night. I try going back to sleep, but it's no use. I go to make myself some tea to help me sleep, and then I realise that the power is not back on yet. I decide to make a drink of melted ice-cream (the freezer lost power), and cookie crumbs.

I drink the drink (from now on, I'll refer to it as the Cream-Crumb Cookie Monster) and find something to do. I decide I will make Mum a surprise breakfast. I choose to make her donuts. If I start now, they will be cool by 6:30 AM, when Mum usually eats breakfast before going to work.

I find a pack of cookie dough and shape them into donuts. I fry them in lots of oil (luckily for me, our stove uses gas, not electricity) and put them on plates. I use a clean syringe (my mum is a nurse, so we have a lot of these) and inject chocolate spread and whipped cream into the donuts. I cover them in plastic wrap and leave them on the counter to cool.

By this time, it is 4:00 AM, still 2 ½ hours till Mum wakes up. I look outside and see a 40 cm deep pool. It must have rained a lot last night. It is still very wet, but the rain has stopped. We won't be able to go to school today either. Shit!!

The power comes on again. Hallelujah!! I search up things to do when you're bored. I write a list of them and then put my iPad to charge. I reset the clocks on the appliances in every room of the house. Within 5 minutes, the power starts flickering, and eventually goes off again.

I scan through the list I have made. I find that most things on the list require power. I eventually find something to do: clean my room. Not very exciting, but there's barely anything else on the list I can do during a blackout, and it needs to be done. I start cleaning.

Half an hour later, I finish. My room looks a whole lot better than before. I had wanted to clean my room for ages, but I could never get stuck into it. I want to make cool decorations, but I would need to go to the shops to get supplies. And I am not going out in that flood!!

I look through the list again and decide to draw. I start drawing a portrait of my mum to give to her as a gift when she wakes up. I am pretty talented at drawing, so it looks almost professional. I finish my sketch and look at my watch. It is now 5:35 AM. Less than one hour until Mum will wake up.

I decide to clean out my school bag and find some work to do. I take out all my old homework and eventually find a sheet that hasn't been done. That must have been from the week I was in hospital getting allergy tests. Ms Santopolous gave me that in case I was really bored and could concentrate on work. My brain was so tired that I never got to do it.

Luckily for me, the worksheet was algebra, my favourite. It was really complicated, but I managed to finish it in 10 minutes. I find a calculator and check over my answers. I did really well and only got one question wrong. Out of 50!!

I try to fall asleep, but then I start to hear heavy rain again. I look outside and see it is now bucketing down rain. There is about 15L of water just on the trampoline. It is starting to look like a pool outside. At this rate, school won't be open for weeks, maybe even months!
