Sam POV

I walked into Mrs. Smith's home, not in good spirits. The flight was rough and full of turbulence, Alex was coming with us, which was a plus, but I didn't need Dan's parents to watch after us. Alex and I could do it on our own, it wasn't like we were about to have our babies or anything.

Alex was much different than I was in this situation. She didn't mind being in a stable home away from Kyle, though she did bring the kitten along with us. Of course she would miss Kyle just as I missed Dan, however I seemed to be a bit more 'clingy'. I was guided upstairs by Richard who sat my bags down in one of the spacious bedrooms before smiling at me.

"Hope this comfortable for you Samantha...when you're finished why don't you come downstairs and relax with the family in the parlour?" I nodded with a smile before slipping off my shoes. He excused himself before leaving me to change and get comfortable. I looked around, noticing the keyboard in the corner then some lyric papers. This was Dan's old room. It even smelled of his cologne. Such a nice gesture of putting me in my fiance's room turned out to be such a torturing hell.

I quickly changed into some jeans and a loose t-shirt that could accommodate my growing stomach, I already felt like a whale and I was only four months into it. Almost half way there; I thought to myself before changing. I made my way downstairs, sitting down on the sofa while everyone else got comfortable. I checked my watch, only 3pm, I needed some coffee if I was going to be up late.

"Hey Sam! You know we have a lot to catch up on since well...when you were away from us for two months. You never told me what happened....All I know is that your friend Stacey died....Leo told us that much." I tensed slightly at her name. My involvement in her death still gave me nightmares. I took a deep breath before shaking my head.

"Not now Alex...let me go grab a coffee then I'll talk to you. I just need to be alone for a little bit and clear my head."

"O...alright, just be careful and take your phone alright?" I nodded slowly before grabbing my jacket and showing her my phone as I slipped it into my pocket. I snatched my clutch before heading out the front door and taking a deep breath of the crisp air. It was a bit nippy, but not too cold. I walked for awhile, coming upon a small, inviting coffee shop that fit my needs.

I walked inside and sat down in the corner of the store, looking through the menu of intricate coffees before being interupted by a familiar voice. He was wearing a nice suit and behind him, his parents whose names had slipped my mind. Don, the man who I escorted and acted as if we were dating for the benefit of his parents.

"Sam?! Fancy meeting you here!" I smiled happily before standing and kissing his cheek. "Mom, Dad, this is Sam as you recall. A /friend/ of mine...wow you're expecting?" He laughed as we all sat down in the booth. His hand laid on my stomach for a moment then his mother did the same.

"I just love babies! My son told us you had talked some sense into him to tell us the truth. If only you were the girl for him and not already taken...unless..is this his?!" Ann, Don's mother, exclaimed looking at me with wide eyes. I quickly shook my head no before showing my engagment ring.

"Ah what a shame I thought my son had a winner with you" Don's father Larry sighed softly before laughing and ordering us all coffees. Don kissed my cheek then my ring before smiling.

"He must be a very lucky man."

"I would like to think he is, but he's busy on...with work." I shrugged slightly before smiling back then sipping my coffee. This felt comfortable. Almost like a family. Just without Dan.

Alex POV

I had to follow Sam, I didn't trust her to come back right away. I told Richard and Linda that I was going to go for a walk while Sam stopped for coffee. I shivered with my jacket as I silently followed behind her. She didn't even look back once until she got to the coffee shop. I fixed my hood so my face was well hidden from her view. I sat near the window so I was barely in view of her behind my menu. I noticed a group of people walk over to her table and peaked around my menu. A guy in a suit was getting touchy with her and two older people were admiring her ring and stomach.

I couldn't believe my eyes. Sam had a separate life from what it seemed. Another man, his parents, and his baby? Or was it Dan's? I quickly stood up and rushed out, heading home as fast as I could with the added weight from my stomach. By the time I was inside, I was breathless and nearly in tears. My best friend was hiding stuff from me.

I went into the kitchen and splashed some water on my face before looking over to Linda and Richard who seemed alarmed. I sat down and caught my breath before smiling.

"I just wanted to run a little and it was a bit overwhelming." I laughed it off with them before smiling.

"Alright well I'm going to cook dinner. I hope Sam makes it in time. Otherwise we'll just keep a plate warm for her when she gets home. I nodded in response before rubbing my face. Sam wouldn't make it to dinner. She was too busy leading her other life.
