Chapter 14

26 YEARS EARLIER.

She was a naive 16 year old girl from a defunct home, a product of rape. Her mum saw her as an encumbrance and never missed an opportunity to tell her.

Naturally she fell for the first guy that came along. To her he was the sun, the world revolved in his eyes and his lips, but most especially, in his hands. When they touched her, she saw stars, literally. She would cut off her arm if he asked her to. She loved him that much.

But Lucky was a flatterer, a manipulator and a dead beat.
He had a very dark habit; he was a cocaine addict. In fact he was on a self destruct mission, ready to stain anything and everyone he came across.

Lily was everything he hated. She reminded him of a time when he was unstained. She was pure and innocent. She was untarnished. She was untouched.

He told her he loved her, that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever set his eyes on. She never allowed him go beyond first base though, a few stolen kisses only, but he wanted more. So much more.

He wanted all of her and he planned on going all the way, but he knew she wouldn't agree so easily. He had to soften her up.

He introduced her to the drug on a dark starless night in an uncompleted building; their usual meeting place. He coaxed her to sniff it. Just put your nose close to it and inhale deeply. It's like inhaling the aroma of sweet jollof rice, except with more force. He had said.

He said she would be in space -  on cloud 9, watching the galaxies glide by. She wanted to please him today, because he had become short tempered with her of late, and so she snorted two straight lines of superior coke into her nostrils. It went straight to her brain and she became unconscious shortly after.

Oblivious of what was going on around her, Lucky got to work taking advantage of the situation. He took away her innocence on that starless night. She didn't even know what hit her, until the following morning. She woke up feeling cold and utterly bereft.

She was still in the uncompleted building but Lucky was nowhere to be seen. She felt strange in between her lady parts. Touching herself, her hand came away red and sticky.

Hooked on cocaine and pregnant, she was brain dead when they eventually cut the twins out of her. She died on her seventeenth birthday.

An era of a life not well spent.

Her mother wanted nothing to do with the evil her daughter had spun, so she put them in an orphanage and abandoned them there except to occasionally drop some money for them to be taken care of.

Their grandmother died when the poor tots were four years old. Now they were left without a penny to their name or so it seemed, until a year later, a letter arrived at the orphanage, stating the twins were heirs to their late uncle's wealth and property.

He was a multi - millionaire with properties in different states of the country. The letter stipulated that the twins should be sent to the best private schools.

Details of the disbursement of monthly remittance of finance were included in the letter. The twins would have a guardian at the orphanage until they were eighteen years and of legal age to take over their inheritance.

They grew up and having no one else, depended on each other. They were put in a prestigious private school where the rich sent their children to.

The female twin was walking in the hallway of school on her first day when she saw a boy pulling the braids of a girl. She was crying and cringing away from him.
