The next few weeks go by quickly and soon enough, it's Christmas time next week. Ana and I stopped by the mall to pick up a few gifts for our parents and a few decorations for the "annual Brooks Christmas party" Our family has every year that Ana and I are forced to attend. It isn't that bad, we get to invite a few of our friends but drinking isn't involved so Ana and I don't have as much fun as we would at a party for others our age.
It's Friday once again, which means another party and another drink tonight with Tate. "Are you going to a party tonight?" I question my sister as we walk into Belk. "Probably, Devon and I haven't been to one in like two weeks." She explains. "Why?"
"We keep ourselves occupied with other things on the weekend." She winks at me.
"Oh my god. Shut up." I roll my eyes at her, not caring about what they occupy themselves with.
Tonight comes quickly and I ask my father if I can stay the night with my friend Olivia. I've known Olivia since I moved here also. She's one of my best friends. He says it's okay and I gather my things into my bag and drive to her house.
I curled my hair this morning for school and it ended up being waves by the end of the night. I wore black leggings tonight, a white v-neck shirt and threw a black cardigan over it. It's probably too cold for this outfit but we'll all probably be inside tonight anyway so it doesn't really matter.
Turns out I was wrong. Olivia and I were sitting around a small fire pit in the backyard of this persons house along with a few people we know from school. I was freezing my ass off and completely on edge by the person staring at me from across the fire.
"Do you see that guy staring at us?" I lean over and whisper to Olivia. "I think he's just staring at you." She replies.
A few minutes later of staring, I look down at my red cup and notice it's nearly empty. "I'm going to get another drink. Do you want one?" I ask Olivia as she shakes her head no and continues talking to the girl sitting beside her.
I walk into the kitchen to fill my cup up with the bottle of vodka sitting on the counter. I debate wether or not I want to put orange juice in it or just drink it straight up. This party is getting slow anyway and I want to have fun. I decide to go with no juice.
I turn around to walk out of the kitchen until I notice the same male that was staring at me from across the fire. "Can I help you?' I ask him as he leans against the doorway in the kitchen. "No, I'm fine." He says sarcastically and crosses his arms.
I stare at him for a few moments as he does the same to me. "The fuck are you looking at?" He says rudely and I notice this fucker has an accent.
"I could ask you the same thing, asshole." I reply with the same rough tone as his.
He only stares at me as if he didn't expect me to say something like that to him.
I walk away from him and out the doorway he's standing in. I push myself past time and make my way out the front door.
I sit back in my place on the ground beside Olivia outside and whisper to her what had just happened in the kitchen. Some guy in our little circle is telling us some bullshit story that ninety nine percent of us aren't listening to, including me.
I glance up where the male was recently sitting at to see he's still there. I gaze at him, studying his features as I notice the huge mop of curls on his head in the darkest shade of brown. His clothing is all black, not a spot of another color.
I hold my knee's to my chest and curl up to myself. I don't see how everyone out here isn't freezing also. I scoot closer to the fire and when I look up again, I notice he is still staring at me.
The tan boy sitting beside him whispers something in his ear as he looks at me too. The curly haired boy whispers something back to him but he doesn't take his eyes off of me.
..
Olivia and I are drunk by now and I nearly fall asleep on the grass. Alchohol makes me so sleepy by the end of the night, every time. Olivia knows the girl that lives here and she said we can crash in her room tonight considering we can't drive home tonight. I tell Olivia that I'm going upstaris to sleep and she tells me she'll probably be up there soon too. I nod and make my way back into the house and up the stairs to the girls bedroom.
As I'm changing my shirt in her room, someone quickly opens the door and walks in. "What the fuck!" I shout as I see him standing in the door way. I grab my shirt off the floor and press it to my chest. "Can I fucking help you?" I ask him once again tonight.
"You can keep your shirt off, I don't mind." He says while smirking.
