Chapter 1: My Name Is Yuki

~Yuki Heathero~

Hi there. My name is Yuki Heathero. I'm sixteen years old and work as a maid in a village. I have light pink hair that went down to the ground and green eyes. Some people say I'm too kind for a poor person who sleeps with horses, but I just like to be kind. It is true, I do live in a barn, basically sleep with the horses. I wear the same old raggy dress and I've never worn a pair of shoes in my life. I do think it's fun to walk barefoot.

I'm an orphan who's never seen her parents. Gladly, some people lend me scraps of food that they don't finish. The villagers are kind enough to do that. I just love being kind and I don't like getting a reward for it. It should just be a given thing. When I get free time, I go to the village library. I taught myself God Slaying Magic.

I was currently sweeping the sidewalk in front of the village's bakery. The owner walked outside. He didn't look super happy. "When you're done with that, you can clean the floor!" He yelled. I understood why he was so angry all the time. His entire family had died a year ago. I nodded and continued to sweep.

A couple of school girls walked by. "Isn't she that Yuki girl. I've heard she sleeps in a barn." A girl whispered. They all giggled. I didn't really care what people thought of me. I wished I could go to a real school. I mean, all the books in the library taught me a ton of stuff, I just wanted to be in a real classroom and hear a real teacher.

I put the broom away and walked into the bakery. I walked into the closet and pulled out a mop and bucket and began mopping the floor. Once I was finished, I whiped sweat from my forehead. "Here Yuki. You can have a doughnut." The owner handed me a plain doughnut and a cup of water. I smiled big. He never gave me a doughnut before.

"Thank you!" I thanked him and walked out of the bakery, and to my home in the horse barn. I liked to call it my home now. I pet a brown horse I called Chocolate and pulled a piece of the doughnut off and fed it to her. "Hey there Chocolate. Guess what, the owner of the bakery finally gave me a doughnut!" I took a bite and sat on the hay next to her. There were only two horses in the barn. The other one was white with black spots. I called him Spotty.

He neighed as a greeting. I smiled. "Hi Spotty. I didn't forget you either." I gave him the rest of the doughnut and drank my water. I grabbed my only pencil and notebook and did a few math problems. I was currently doing a multiplication problem. It was 2,500×18,948. I tapped my chin in thought. I did the steps and the answer was 47,370,000. My eyes widened.

I showed the answer to Chocolate. "That's a huge number." I heaved a sigh. On days that I didn't go to the library, this was my usual life. I threw my notebook somewhere and lied down in the hay, stroking Chocolate's tail. I stuffed my face in the brown tail and took in the scent of hay and horse odor.

The combination was actually pretty good. I plopped back onto the hay and closed my eyes. I fell into a deep dream state.

I was running in a field of flowers. I wore a white dress and was barefoot. I loved the smell of all of the flowers. I fell into them and some petals floated into the air. I giggled. "Yuki!" Someone called my name and I rose my head to see a boy with more of a salmon colored type of hair walk up to me. He did a grin that could light up the entire room.

My cheeks covered in red as I smiled. Who was this boy. He suddenly pulled me into an embrace. Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around his neck. We pulled apart and interlaced our fingers with both hands. He looked into my eyes and leaned in closer. And then he kissed me.

End of dream~

I woke up. What was that dream about? I wonder if that boy was real. And I wonder if a boy's lips could feel that soft. But it seemed so real. I noticed that it was nighttime and Chocolate and Spotty were sleeping. I was lying next to Chocolate. I smiled and pet her back. These two horses were all I needed for a family. They didn't yell at me or judge me. All they did was be there for me.

I grabbed my old wool blanket and pulled it on top of me and I snuggled into it. I kinda liked my life but I kinda didn't. For some reason, a tear slid down my cheek. Then I realized, I really didn't actually like this at all. I hated it. I hated it so much. My eyes decided to close, cutting off any chance of thinking for a little bit. This time, I fell asleep for the rest of the night.
