Chapter 8
After making it home, I found that Kate was still not home. That would be two days in a row that she wasn't home when we got there. It may not seem strange to most people, but it was us. Well, me at least because Kate works mostly from home. She doesn't even need to. Richard makes enough for everyone, but she became too bored so she picked up a hobby, which she gets paid to do.
"Jensen!" I called into the quiet house.
"I'm in the kitchen." He yelled back. Of course he is. He always eats, and when he eats, it is always a lot.
"Hey" I said once I was in the kitchen as well.
"Hey." He answered.
"So, did Kami ask where I was?"
"Yep. You knew she would." He wasn't looking at me. He hadn't since I walked into the room.
"What did you tell her?"
"The Truth." He paused for a second. "Well partially."
Oh man, what did he tell her? I really hope it wasn't anything that would make her really suspicious of where I was. I should have told him what to say.
"What part did you tell her?" I asked nervously.
He finally looked at me. I am almost positive that he could see, and probably hear my nervousness. "I only told her that I didn't know what you were doing, which is partially true, and that you wouldn't be riding home with us. I told her that you would find another way home. Now, care to explain it to me like you promised?"
Well that is a relief that he didn't tell her that I was on the bus. She knows exactly how much I abhor it and that I normally wouldn't ride it voluntarily. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself and prepare how to tell him. I am definitely going to tell him about who it was and why, but I think I should keep certain things out. Taking another deep breath I finally started to tell him.
"Well, you already know I rode the bus so that I could ride with someone. I had t-"
"Who wa-" he began.
"Don't interrupt me if you want to know." I said, giving him a look. I paused a second to make sure he understood and would obey. "Okay, so I rode with Adel. I sat with him at lunch today and we made a deal. My side of the deal was that I had to ride with him. I have no idea why he wanted me to, all I know is that he did. In the talking we did, there wasn't even really anything important said. It seemed kind of like he wanted to spend time with me. This, I admit, is weird to me. I am definitely not use to anything like that. Now you can ask a question."
"Why don't you want to tell Kami?" I knew that question would come up.
"Well, why didn't you guys tell me at first when you started dating? Because you didn't know how I would react. I promise you that I am not dating him, and I don't know if we are even friends yet. I just don't know how she will react to me hanging out with him without her there. I can't really explain it."
"Do you like him?" Now that question I didn't expect.
Do I? I don't even know. I can't really tell. Is that why I made him eat something and actually agreed to ride that stupid yellow limousine?
"Honestly, I don't know. I might." I whispered that last part, but he heard it just fine.
"That's why you won't tell her about him. You just don't want her to know that you like him. Why not?"
"I don't know. I guess because of how she was when Tommy first started to harass me. You remember how she thought it was cute and she thought that he wanted to date me. How she kept pushing me, and trying to get me to ask him out and everything. If she found out that I like him, which I am not even sure about, then she would probably be ten times worse. I don't want that, at least not yet. Plus, I don't even think she likes him as a person. Just please don't mention it to her."
