I didn't knock. I knew there was only one person in the house before I opened the door. I closed the door behind me and walked up the stairs just inside the door.
I entered the room three doors past the end of the stairs. I snuck up on the person in the chair at the desk facing the oppisite wall then the one the door was on. I softly ran my fingers on the top of her head. She jumped and turned around.
"God, Raine. You scared the crap out of me!" Kami exclaimed.
I laughed.
"That was the point. You should have seen your face! It was priceless." I modeled her face expression for her and she laughed. "So what are you doing?"
"Talking to Jensen." She answered with guilty expression on her face.
I rolled my eyes.
"Of course you are. Why did I even ask?"
"I'm getting off now, I promise. So, what happened today? He didnt tell me anything. I swear."
I walked over to one of her two identical beds and sat on it. She followed and leaned against the headboard, hugging a pillow to her chest.
"I believe you."
"So, will you tell me?" She asked softly.
I did. I explained everything to her. From Tommy waiting outside my classroom to walking away to go find her. All of it.
"He. Did. Not." She said, pronouncing each word.
"He did." I confirmed.
"Oh my god, I can't believe he would do something like that. I mean, trying to ruin your reputation and making you look easy. Does he do things like that all the time?"
I winced, I didn't like telling her about when Jensen and I fought. I rarely tell her anything he does bad to me. Even though he pesters me, he really is a pretty good brother. Sometimes. I know she is my best friend and all, but there are just some things I can't bring myself to tell her because of the fact that she is dating him.
"Sort of. Not always in that form, but yeah he does stuff to me all the time."
She had a look on her face that would scare me. Oh shit! She can't!
"I think I know that look. Please don't do what you are thinking."
"I dont want to be with someone who would hurt my best friend."
"Its fine. Kami, look at me. Its. Fine. Forget about it okay? We're good now. It was a misunderstanding on his part. We are cool now. Everything is okay. There is no reason for you to break up with him."
She was silent. So was I. I sat there waiting for her to say something.
"Please say something." I begged her.
"I don't know what to say."
"Just tell me you won't break up with him."
She sighed and gave in. "I won't break up with him."
"Good. We both know that you really don't want to do that. I have seen the way you look at him and the way you simply glow when you are together."
"I glow?"
I chuckled "Yeah, you do. It is really hard to explain, but you do."
"I didn't know that." She was smiling to herself. After a few minutes she looked up at me and asked, "Can you stay tonight? I want to finally watch The Haunting of Molly Hartley."
