Chapter Twelve

Jace's P.O.V

After all the chaos of trying to give Alec his antibiotics, we moved him back to his room.  He was placed laying on his stomach, so that we could easily cut the bandage dressings off and take note of any damage that he could have caused to himself. Once we removed the bandages and saw that the only damage there was there from before, we all let out a collective sigh of relief. I watched as Magnus and Hailey took over his care and started doing all kinds of things on his back and injuries. I started to back out of the room and return to the kitchen were I'd seen some paper. Once there I decided that I should send a fire-letter to mother so that she wouldn't worry and so that she would know what's going on.  As I was writing the letter, I decided against telling her that I had found him and his condition. Instead I told her that I had found a promising lead and was going to be gone for a while chasing it. Once I was finished with the letter I then drew the necessary rune of it and it was off. I then started a letter for Clary knowing that she would be able to read right through the letter and would want to know what it happening. I then told her that I had found Alec and a few details on how he was doing, as well as telling her that she needed to keep this a secret because they couldn't know until he was better. 

By the time that I had finished the letter, the warlock Hailey came upstairs. When she saw me she gave me this look but I didn't know what it meant. She then walked over to me, "What are you doing?" I backed up as she was getting to close for my comfort and promptly answered, "Nothing, I was just sending a fire-message." She cocked her head sideways, "Oh really, and who were you sending this fire-message too?" "I, um, was just sending it to the family and my girlfriend." She stopped in her advancement towards me and gave me a look of horror, "You did what?!?" she yelled. "You can't do that- no one is suppose to know that he's alive and on the mend. Sebastian could track the message back to us and then we would be defenseless. And before you go trying to convince me that no one will know or that Sebastian wouldn't find us, then you're wrong. He will find us and then he will kill us warlocks for helping him and then continue that torture that he was inflicting on Alec." Before she would continue her rant, on fear of my life, I interrupted her, "Okay, before you continue hounding me, I didn't tell them that I had found him or how he was doing. All I told the family is that I found a lead that looked promising- the only one who knows that I have found Alec and a little bit of his condition is my girlfriend, Clary because she can help us if needed. "

She looked at me suspiciously before backing off, "I'm sorry, it's just that I've been living off the radar of the clave and really everyone but a few people that I know and would really like to keep it that way. Being the oldest warlock around can be very dangerous." I looked at her, trying to see if she really was telling the truth, "How old are you?" I asked. She snapped her head back at me, "Don't you know that it's rude to ask a lady her age?" I rolled my eyes "No, really, I mean if you're as old as you are insinuating then why is it so dangerous for you." 

"It's dangerous because the older you become the more powerful you are. And the more powerful you the more of a threat you become to your enemies and to the clave. Once warlocks reach a certain age, they then get someone from the clave to check in on them to make sure that they aren't planning on overthrowing the clave. though, most warlocks don't live to be as old as her." Magnus chimed in, making me jump a bit. Hailey just smiled at him, like she had know that he was there the entire time. "Okay, I won't ask any more questions because I really don't want to know. How's Alec doing?" I turned my attention mostly to Magnus but was still keeping Hailey within eye distance. Magnus looked at him with a pensive face- when I left him he was still asleep but I don't know what kind of mental state he will be in when he wakes up. He will probably avoid us and withdraw from us. At least that's my guess based on previous times." I looked each of them in the eye before wandering off to take a look around.

Hailey's POV

I watched as Jace walked off going who knows where in the house, before turning to look at Magnus. "Both of you need to get out of here. You've been cooped up in here and neither of you do good at being copped up." 

Magnus gave me an exasperated look "And you don't need to get out of the house?"

"Magnus, of course I want to get out, but we both know that I can't leave for a very long time.  the clave is still looking for me. You know when the rumor about me comes up they all get antsy and start looking into all the old warlocks backgrounds. They are starting to get good at finding things that should be left in the past." I threw my hands up into the air and turned around to face him. "You know hoe much I would love to go outside, but with Sebastian out and about a new warlock appearing doesn't look good and it won't help with the relationship between us and them. Plus, you know that I am the only person that can give Alexander the help that he needs."

Magnus opened his mouth to say something when the alarm went off- they blared through the house. Magnus and I immediately were armed- no one knew where the house was and I put up a charm to make sure that no one could track us down.
