We had been in Los Angeles for 2 days now. Ellie and I spent the first day lazing around our apartment, desperately trying to fight the jet lag.

After numerous cans of red bull and experiencing our first Taco Bell, we decided to grab a few hours sleep and wake up the next day to explore.

We spent the second day exploring all of the regular tourist spots. Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, Hollywood walk of fame; all that jazz. So far, we were having the best time in the world, but we wanted to experience true L.A, whatever that was, not just the outsider experience.

I woke up at around 11am, ready for day 3 of my vacation. Ellie was still asleep, snoring away as per usual. I decided I didn't want to wake her just yet, in case she had a rough nights sleep due to the jet lag.

I moved from the bed cautiously, tiptoeing over to the en-suite. The sight I got in the mirror wasn't a pleasant one. To put it bluntly, I looked like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. Before I could pick out anything else wrong with my appearance, I turned the shower on and started to brush my teeth whilst the water heated up.

The apartment we ended up getting was really nice. The complex couldn't have been to old as everything looked brand new. The windows looked like they'd never touched dust and the grey plush sofa's looked like they'd never been sat on. The apartment was really spacious with an open plan living room and kitchen area with a balcony, one bedroom and an en-suite.

After brushing my teeth, I stepped into the shower. It was one of those expensive overhead showers that I'd always wanted for my own home back in London. I must've spent about 15 minutes daydreaming, before remembering I did actually want to achieve something with the day.

Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped a crisp white towel around my body and slowly walked out of the steamy bathroom over to my suitcase in the corner of the bedroom. I hadn't unpacked yet because 1- I'm lazy and 2- I'm lazy. I pulled out a black denim miniskirt with a raw hem and paired it with a cropped white spaghetti shoulder vest. Simple, but stylist. I wrapped my hair up in a bun as it was soaking wet, not wanting to blow dry it due to heat damage. Honestly, you learn a lot from working in the beauty industry.

There was a massive, floor length, silver mirror in the living room of our apartment and that's where I chose to do my makeup every day. My makeup bag was already placed on the coffee table next to the grey sofa so I grabbed it and went to sit cross legged in front of the mirror. A bucketload of minutes later I was done. All I did was light makeup, which to me meant everything but foundation, eyeshadow and eyeliner. Being a freelance makeup artist, I tend to get carried away with my makeup and I find it hard not to do the full works every-time.

I looked up at the silver clock on the wall above the mirror. The Roman numerals read 11:56 and I decided I would leave Ellie sleeping whilst I went to get us breakfast from a little coffee shop around the corner.

I slid on my black and white checkered vans that were conveniently placed by the front door and grabbed the keys and my bag with my essentials packed from the hook on the back of the door.

As I walked away, I remembered I'd left my phone on charge next to the bed. I hesitated about going back to grab it or not. I decided against. The coffee shop was literally a 3 minute walk and I doubted highly anything would happen so urgently that I couldn't walk back in time.

I softly close the door behind me as not to wake Ellie, and made my way down the long, white hall towards the the lift.
