2 days later
A couple of days had passed without seeing David. I eventually started thinking about him
less and decided to get back to thinking about the main reason we were here: my birthday.I woke up to the sound of the apartment door slamming. I yawned and reached for my phone with my left hand and rubbed my eyes with the right. I looked at the time on my phone, 7:56. What on earth was Ellie doing up so early.
Ignoring the few birthday messages I had, I threw my phone next to me on the bed and stretched. Debating going back to sleep, I figured getting up was probably the best idea. Ellie would murder me if I spent the day sleeping, but honestly, that's all I wanted to do.
Ever since I was young, I hadn't been a big fan of birthdays. Something always seemed to go wrong. When I was four, my older brother blew out my birthday candles and I spent the day crying. My fifth birthday was a month after my grandad had passed, and a few months after moving in with my grandma. As you can imagine, the list goes on and on.
As I walked into the living room, I wasn't surprised to see Ellie had put up an excessive amount of 'happy 21st birthday' banners. There was an excessive amount of silver balloons swamping the floor and '21' bunting. She had always been a massive fan of birthdays and every year she felt obliged to try and make me like mine a little bit more. I really did appreciate it though, it's nice to know someone cares.
Looking around the living room, I noticed a note and a box of cigarettes on the coffee table. I kicked the herd of balloons out of the way as I walked over to the glass table, that had become one of the most used items in the apartment.
'I've gone to get your birthday breakfast, I'll be back in an hour at the most. There's an iced coffee in the fridge for you. Love you
Xxx'I put the note back on the coffee table and slipped a cigarette out of the box. It was gonna be a long day.

OthersEllieRose happy 21st birthday to my absolute rock. You don't realise the things you do for me daily, and how loved you truly are. You are the most hardworking person I know and I hope today and can show you just 1% of what you mean to me. My best friend, I love you x

Ellie and I spent the day eating, chilling and having a laugh. She was in the shower getting ready to go out for the evening and I was sitting on the sofa in a towel, just having had my shower, scrolling down Instagram on my phone when there was a knock on the door.
'Finally' I thought. We'd ordered alcohol a while ago and it was taking forever to show up. I strolled over to the door and adjusted my towel so I wasn't looking too indecent for the postmate.
As I opened the door, I wasn't greeted with a delivery man, instead, David.
Shocked to see him, and embarrassed to be standing pretty much in the nude, I shot behind the door, leaving just my head sticking out. "Oh-er-sorry I thought you were someone else" I stuttered.
"Hot date huh?" David winked.
I started to go red, so started fiddling with my hair to distract myself.
"I'm joking, I heard you and your friend laughing on the balcony a while ago, so I followed the noise up to where I thought it was coming from and here I am!" He smiled and shrugged.
"I was just going to ask," he put his hands back in his pockets, fiddling with something. Keys I suspect. He came across... nervous? "My friend's having a party tonight, you know, just because. Erm, I was going to see if you and your friend..." he hesitated not knowing her name.
"-Ellie" I interrupted.
"Ellie," he finished. "Wanted to come?"
I went to speak but David cut me off. "I know it's last minute but you two seem really cool and plus you're only on holiday so you might as well make use of it?"
I thought about being at a party with David and all of his friends, no doubt Ellie would be telling everyone it was my birthday as well, making it a massive deal. I couldn't deal with the thought, let alone the reality.
I just knew I was going to make an idiot of myself somehow and then constantly cringe back at the moment I made a complete fool of myself in front of a bunch of strangers.
I shook my head. "It's my birthday, I think Ellie's booked something" I lied, the first thing that came to my head.
David looked...disappointed? Which I'm not going to lie, I was pleased about on the inside.
"Ah man, that sucks. Hey- why don't you take my number, if that blows out you can always text me and get the address?"
The way he was quite persisted got me thinking, does he have a thing for me too? I mean, I know we've only seen each other briefly twice, but, he could still be attracted to me. Right?
"I don't have my phone on me at the moment, just take mine"
David rolled his eyes, "You and your phone."
Choosing to ignore his comment for lack of clothing and not wanting to go in to the conversation, I hurriedly gave David my number and had to hide the ecstatic smile on my face. We said our goodbyes and I ran into the bedroom, where Ellie was getting ready. I explained to her everything that happened and she started smiling too.
"We HAVE to go!" She squealed. "How else are you gonna talk to him? Come on! It's your birthday!"
I bit my lip in anxiousness. "It's just a bit much don't you think?"
Ellie looked at me wide eyed. "Are you nuts?! This is the best thing that could possibly happen. Look.. I'm not gonna lie to you. After we spoke to him and he told us he was a youtuber I looked him up..." Ellie admitted.
I sat down on the bed next to her, curious. "But we only know his first name?"
"Yeah I know, but, all I did was type in 'David' and 'Youtube' and sure as fuck he came up"
I raised my eyebrows suspiciously. "And?"
"Aaaand, he's worth a shit load babe. He's really famous, like proper famous." Ellie carried on brushing her hair. "Even if you don't wanna go because you're scared to talk to him, think about the exposure for your career. Most people like that do photo shoots and stuff all the time, they're always gonna need a makeup artist"
I sat and took in all that Ellie had to say. David didn't seem famous, or rich? It was all just a bit shocking to hear. After going back and forth in my mind for a few minutes, I finally came to a conclusion.
"If he texts me, we'll go."
