Both Alden and Avery sighed as they were dragged through the crowds by Dillon. Neither of them really wanted to be there, but they came anyway because they'd go anywhere for their friend.
"Can we please stop walking around?" Avery whined. Dillon turned back to look at him.
"No way! This is San Diego Comic-Con! If we don't get to the front, we'll miss all the celebrities!!" He protested. With a small tug of encouragement, he got the two of them walking again.
Sure enough, once they made it to the celebrity tables, the crowd had thickened even more, and the lines to meet them were growing bigger by the second.
"Come on you guys! Moveeeeee! We have to get in Winston Gray's line! I HAVE to meet him!" Dillon squealed excitedly as they got in line behind everyone else. Avery looked at all the excited fans. He didn't really get into many TV shows and "fandoms", so he felt out of place basically being at a hub for them.
"I...have to go to the bathroom. Be right back." He said quickly, dashing out of line before Dillon or Alden could stop him.
Avery was silently grateful that the bathroom was empty. He opened a stall, closed the door, and just sat there. He didn't know why but he wanted to cry. What good reason did he have for feeling this way? He doesn't watch enough television? The fact that why he was crying wasn't a very good reason to be crying only made him cry more.
Avery took a sharp intake of breath as he heard the door swing open. Footsteps made their way near his stall. A small knock then came from the outside.
"H-Hello?" The voice called, "are you, uh, okay in there? When I came in I thought I heard crying..." Avery took a shaky breath, trying to stay quiet, before talking back.
"No, I'm o-okay. I'm just being over emotional..." He replied.
"I think every emotion has a valid reason behind it. Do you wanna talk about it?" The mystery voice asked. Avery thought about it.
"Sure." What did he have to lose? "My friend brought me to this event, and I love going places with him, but I always feel...out of place when I'm in public. He's so extroverted, and I'm...not. I really want to get to know people, but I'm so worried they'll see how anxious I get over little things and walk away forever. I-Is that normal?"
The voice didn't say anything for a second, and Avery worried he'd left too. Until finally:
"I think it's normal to be worried about stuff like that. I know I used to be..." He said. Knowing someone had previously felt like him made Avery feel a bit better.
"Hey, would you like to spend the rest of today up front with me? It gets lonely up there." The voice added.
Avery sighed. "I guess so, it'd be less boring than standing-wait a minute...did you say "up front"? Are you...?"
"A celebrity? Yeah..." The voice admitted, it almost sounded like he was bracing for something.
"That's cool. I've never met a famous person before. Is it supposed to happen like this?" He quipped cheekily.
"Wow...you're the first person I've talked to who hasn't freaked out about me yet."
"Well, who are you?" Avery asked, unlocking the stall door and stepping out, to see a man a few years older than him standing there.
"Winston Gray. Heard of me?" He teased with a wink.
"Actually yes, especially from my aforementioned friend, Dillon. He practically idolizes you." Avery explained with a little laugh.
"I've met a lot of people who do. Where is he? Maybe he could join us today. I really meant my offer to join me just so you know."
Avery lead Winston out of the bathrooms and back to his awaiting friends. Avery pulled out his phone at the sight of Dillon's face when he saw who he'd brought back. This was a moment he'd want to remember forever.
