The sky was overcast, and there was a tinge of red among the grey clouds that loomed over the night sky. The cracking of thunder in the distance was tenuous, but nonetheless reflected the impending storm that was to come. As minutes passed, the turbulent clouds assembled, ready to devour the night sky in all of its darkness, illuminated only by occasional bolts of lightning that streaked across the black abyss like veins.
If anything, the weather was pretty representative of how Gwen felt at that point in time.
As the Lester Riddle brothers had phrased it, it was time for Gwen to face her destiny.
Although she was merely a decoy to distract her father's men, she couldn't afford a single mistake. One wrong move would entail disastrous consequences for all of them.
They wore a layer of clothing over the kinetic suits such that the suits weren't easily recognisable. Moreover, Natasha tried her very best to make them as close to skin colour as possible so it would blend in perfectly.
Justin was positioned in the trees nearby with his AWM, and Gwen could hear just how disgruntled he was from his groans over the communicator.
"This is so goddamn uncomfortable..." Justin muttered under his breath, "but honestly, hats off to you, Kei..."
"Heh, a lot harder in reality isn't it?" Kei's laughter echoed just how imperious he was at the fact that he had been able to keep up with spying on Gwen for 3 years, while his brother was already struggling after 3 minutes.
Justin let out an exasperated sigh.
Gwen swapped to the channel between Justin and her alone as she stood 200m away from her house.
"You there?" Gwen whispered nervously, fiddling with the pocket that her Rubix cube was placed in.
"I'll always watch your back, Gwen."
"Promise?"
"I promise. Be brave, Gwen. I'll be here to talk to you, so stay calm."
"I'll try..." At this point, her heart lodged inside her throat. Gwen tried very hard to suppress the wave of fear that overcame her by reminding herself that Justin was by her side.
Just like how he had always been in the game.
Breathe, Gwen, breathe...it's just like how it has always been.
