I was pretty scared driving Demi to the hospital. I tried to keep her calm, but she was freaking out. Understandably so. She was hurting the hell out of my hand & I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to play the guitar for a while. It was a small price to pay, though, if it helped her get through the pain. We got to the hospital & they wheeled her straight back to an exam room. She was hooked up to every machine they had on hand, I swear. A doctor examined her & said she wasn't dilated, so that was comforting. They called Dr. Anderson, Demi's doctor. They also did a test of some sort to determine if she was in actual labor. It would take a little bit for the results so we had to wait. Her contractions were subsiding a little, so that was good. She wasn't in as much pain.

I tried to keep her mind off of what was going on, so I talked about random things. She lost her patience with me, so I decided to talk about something else. I figured I'd try to make her think of happy thoughts. "So, when did you really know you would love me forever?" I asked with a tiny smile on my face.

"Who said I was going to love you forever?" Demi giggled, then laughed out loud. I gave her a look like I was hurt & she reached up to touch my face. "I told you. The first day I met you."

I rolled my eyes & laughed. "You didn't know that first day that you would love me forever."

Demi nodded, still smiling. "Yes, I did." She stuck her lip out. "Didn't you know that same day?"

I reached up to run my hand over her hair. "Yes. I knew that day. Without a doubt." I smiled at her. "Okay, so then tell me, what has been the best day of your life so far?" I asked with a cocky expression on my face.

Demi bit her lip & smiled up at me, her head tilted a little. She looked up at the ceiling & pressed her lips together like she was thinking hard. She did this for several minutes, contorting her face every couple of seconds. I sighed, impatiently & she laughed. Her face got serious & she reached for my hand. "One would think it would be when the kids were born or when I found out I was pregnant for the first time & those are all amazing, but they wouldn't have happened the way they did if I hadn't married you." Her voice cracked & her chin trembled, slightly. "So the day I became your wife will always be the best day of my life. That was the day I dreamed about for years & that was the day I was the absolute happiest. Nothing can ever compare to that day, because not only was our wedding perfect in every way possible but it was the day that I knew we were forever. And I never felt so euphoric than I did that day." I reached to catch a tear that fell from her eye, then kissed her hand.

"What a coincidence. That same day is the best day of my life, too." I smiled then kissed her. "That was the day that made my life complete & that was the first day of the rest of my amazing life."

Dr. Anderson came in at that moment. "So, I have good news & bad news." He said. Demi & I just looked at him as we waited. "The good news is your test came back that you aren't in labor. The bad news is that you can go into labor at any time. And your contractions can keep continuing because of an irritable uterus." He let out a chuckle, but we didn't think it was funny. "Anyway, I want to keep you in the hospital for a while, so we can keep those babies in there for as long as possible."

"I have to stay in the hospital for over a month?" Demi asked.

"We're going to try to get you to 35 weeks. Your first twins were born at 36 weeks, so it could happen. You've had several kids since then, so your cervix is weaker as well as your uterus. We need to monitor you, closely, which is why I want to keep you here."

Demi's head fell back & her eyes filled, immediately, with tears. I rubbed her arm to soothe her. "I can't stay here for six weeks. I'll go crazy. I need to be at home, doctor. I need to be in my own bed with my kids." Demi said to the ceiling, her voice shaky from the tears.
