This time she took the wheel. It was still a pretty awkward drive. I mean, we don't even know each other that well. But then with just a few words, Lane broke the silence.
"Are you ever going to tell me?"
I paused. "Tell you what?"
"Why you asked me to take you out. We didn't even drive anywhere, it just felt like you needed to escape. But escape from what exactly?" Damn, she is smart."You've figured it out already." I said with a smirk. She turns down the radio a bit. I bite my lip before saying, "My parents suck. I needed to get out." "My parents..." She paused. "You should meet them. When was the last time you ate?" She asked me. "Um about a week ago?"
Her face paled a bit as she slams on the breaks causing me to jerk forward. "A WEEK?" She raised her voice. I nodded slowly.
She fingered through her long dark brown hair, almost looking black. "Do you want to go to my place?" She proposed. I shook my head. "I can't my dad would....be mad." I swallowed. "I need to go home." I stated. She nodded and started to drive again.
I looked at her and smirked. "So, tell me about yourself." This was an invitation. Lane smiled to herself, keeping her eyes on the road, knowing she is finally opening up.
"Well, school wise I study in tech, I'm flexible, keep to myself, I despise dresses, and I don't cause beef with anyone. I can run fast."
I listen. "Wait, wait, wait, you don't like dresses? You're a girl!" I reasoned.
She glanced at me. "Yeah but I don't care about how the world views women. "
"Respect." I say. "Wanna know how the world views you?" I asked. "Go on." She said.
"You are shy, you have a soft voice like Tyler Joseph," she giggled at that statement. "And you are probably fun and outgoing." I say.
She blushes a bit. "Your turn. Tell me about you."
I hesitated. "Well, I love listening to music, I stay in my room most of the time," I think for a moment. "I can't live without headphones."
I chuckle. She sighs. "The world sees you as hard-headed, an introvert with outbursts and," she looks at me. "Brave" she looks back at the road.
Brave.
"How am I brave? Outbursts but and introvert?" she wasn't wrong. I just wanted to know how she is 100% right.
"That girl, you had a good comeback right off the top of your head but, you don't talk much. You're brave because you snuck out of your house and you beat someone up."
I think about myself for a bit. No one usually thinks that way of me. But she was different. She makes me feel good about myself.
We reach my neighborhood. "You can drop me off here." I said. I knew my parents would be home this late and I needed to sneak in.
"Need help sneaking in?" She asked.
I did.
"Yeah actually I do. Can you give me a boost on the roof?"
She got out of the car. "Yes ma'am!"We start to walk to my house. "Wanna hang again some time?" She asked. I nodded. "Yah. You're tolerable" I say with a smug look. "Psh."
We reach my house. She cups her hands so that she can give me a boost. I put my foot in her hand. "Dun, dun, dun DUN!" She sang. I get on top of the roof.
"Cya." I said. She waved and ran back to her truck.
I get into my room and close the window. My parents were downstairs. I hear them walk around. I flop on my bed and started listening to Before you start your day.
