When you woke up to Terezi screaming at the alarm clock you would have never guessed that this would happen. It was the least likely thing to ever occur. Of course, you thought about such things before. But you never thought it would happen like this. It's really....weird to think about. You proceed through life waking up and never expecting it to happen. But it did.

It didn't really feel painful. Just like something pushed you really really hard, and that you couldn't breathe. That feeling when you stay underwater to long and are just about to resurface, the aching need for air. And poof, its black. Then there you are. Standing above your own body with wide eyes, still registering that you are dead.

You, Karkat Vantas, a nobody, is dead. You're life was over just when it was about to start. You would never get to see Kankri again. Never have another day with Terezi, or talk to twinArmageddons on Trollian. You wouldn't get to complain about how naggy your neighbor Eridan was, or thank Meulin for covering your shift. You would never finish reading NightCircus. You'd never publish your book...

You look up and you see Terezi at the sidewalk. You can't hear her, but it looks like shes screaming. She runs over to you and the driver of the truck you were hit by is urgently calling the police. All you can do is watch sadly as your head lulls in her arms. She checks your pulse, and starts screaming again, now at the man who hit you. You wonder what she's saying, and why you can't hear her for a moment...

"It's becauthe I'm not letting you."

You spin to look at the owner of the voice, only to find they aren't there. You look in every which way spinning awkwardly getting used to not really touching the ground.

"Who's there?"

"A friend."

"How do I know that?"

"Becauthe I haven't done anything to hurt you yet."

"I'm dead, how can one get hurt?"

The voice scoffs and in a bright show of light, the shape of a person is in front of me. He looks really nerdy, and has weird bicolored glasses on. A gemini symbol on his shirt.

"Doethn't matter right now. Thath not what were here to talk about. I'm your guardian, Thollux. Nice to finally meet you kk."

"Oh sweet balls of shit muffins what the ever living fuck is happening right now."

"Currently, you're being put on a thtretcher while your friend ith threaming for you to 'wake up' which you cannot do. At least not yet."

"Thath not what I meant! If you're some 'guardian angel' or some shit. Why the hell did you talk to me over trollian of all things?"

He shrugged. "Ith funner that way. And I'm not an angel. Do I look like I have wings?"

You roll your eyes and nudge him. "Well, it's nice to meet you then. Sorta."

He nods. "Thorta. With it could be under different circemthtanceth."

"So what are you doing anyway, taking me on some sorta death tour of the beyond or some shit?"

"No. You're thtaying here."

"What?"

"You aren't dead. Not yet anyway."

"Then whath the deal?"

"Currently, you are thutck between life and death. You're in a coma."

"Oh, great...Lemme guess, I can't just magically wake up can I?"

"Of courthe not. I'm here to give you the low down and help you out. My mithion ith to keep you alive."

"Uh, Thanks I guess. So tell me the deal."

"Coma'th are a bit tricky to get out of. You have to finish whatever you haven't. Wrap up all loose endth. The way you do it, and when decideth if you end up dying or not."

"So wait, I have a time limit?"

"Well of courthe, you have about a month. Thath how long the doctorth will keep you hooked up to life thupport machineth."

"Well...thit, I mean shit..."

He gives you an unamused look before rolling his eyes.

"Righht. Okay, well hereth your hint at what you have to do in time. It involveth the bookthtore, tho I advithe hanging out there."

"So..You want me to go over there right now or catch up with my body...?"

"I'll watch over your phythical form for you. Just go over to the bookthore....Oh!"

In another flash of light theres a glowing ball in his hands, he throws it into the sky and watches as it disappears.

"There we go. The retht is up to you Karkat. Good luck."

"Wait! where are you going?!"

"I'm doing jutht ath I thaid, watching over your phythical form. I may pop in and  check on you though, jutht to make thure you don't fuck up to bad."

"Asshole, I'm not gonna screw up!"

"We'll just see about that now huh?" And with that, he was gone just as quickly as he had came, leaving you to your own thoughts.
