Karkat was practically tackled by Meulin and given a huge smile from Kurloz, even a small smile from the bitchy barista at the built in starbucks who enjoyed stealing his spot,when he walked back into the bookstore. Everyone was extremely happy to see him doing well. Kankri had sent Karkat's book off to publishing. In the weeks that followed, Terezi stayed at Karkat's apartment for a bit to make sure he wasn't going anywhere soon, before Karkat gathered his things and moved into Kankri's apartment.
Sollux was a constant visitor, always having dinner with them, and Karkat finally glad he could try Kankri's cooking which turned out to be just as good as it looked. When Sollux showed up one day with a surprising addition of yellow wings sprouting from his back, the grin on his face was un-helpfully contagious. Holding a certificate in his hand he read to them, "For fuffilling the dutieth of a junior guardian, Thollux Captor hath graduated into a guardian angel."
Karkat's book was a huge favorite to the public, becoming and instant hit and he was called for talkshow interviews almost constantly. But as he kiss Kankri, fingers intertwined in bed, there was nothing he could be more happy about then the boy who rushed in with tousled hair and a red sweater. In a year's time, Karkat returned to the back of the bookstore after packing up his things. The bookstore had gone out of business, but everyone there was moving on to better things. He plopped the box down on the desk sending up a whirl of dust he swished away with a few waves of his hands and a small cough sitting down. He observed the ring around his finger and thought happily about his husband to be.
He thought it funny, it started with some stupid unfinished book. But he couldn't be happier with that.
