The car was filled to the roof with chairs, towels, piles of sunscreen (mainly for Sherlock) and even a two-person kayak strapped to the roof of the Hatchback. Rosie sound asleep in the only backseat with all the beach supplies taking over the trunk.

"I don't know why we had to take so much stuff." John said for the third time since they got on the highway.

"You never know what you're going to need when you go to the beach." Sherlock replied, eyes glued onto the road.

"No," John corrected. "You don't know what you need when you go to the beach." Sherlock smirked ever so slightly. Anyone else would never have noticed, but John saw it plain as day.

The pair of detectives had moved to America for "business reasons" and were attending a conference in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Sherlock was asked to give a presentation and as a "Thank You" they were provided with a beach house for the week. This was the first time they had been away together ever since they're relationship became "official". They were even able to drop Rosie off at her grandmother's house (Mary's mother) who evidently lived just a few blocks from the house they were renting.

About an hour into the drive, John began to doze off. Sherlock, becoming antsy without anyone to talk to, hit the brakes suddenly and John sprang up.

"What in the bloody hell, Sherlock?" He asked, squinting his eyes from the sunlight.

"I got bored." He replied, eyes glued to the road.

"Jesus, Sherlock! We have a kid in the car." John leaned his head against the headrest.

"There's no one behind us." Sherlock defended. This was true, John concluded as he turned around to see the empty road behind their Hatchback. There were only a few cars in front of them that were a long ways away.

"How much longer?" John couldn't wait to get out of this car, especially with Sherlock at the wheel.

"Fifteen minutes" Sherlock replied.

About 45 minutes they pulled up in front of a tall, navy blue beach house. It was split right in the middle with identical garages, windows, and decks. John practically jumped out of the car and took Rosie out of her car seat. She began giggling when John groaned at Sherlock for forgetting to put the car in park and almost running it into the side of the house.

"Jesus, Sherlock." He mumbled under his breath.

He rang the doorbell and a woman in her mid 70s came to the door. She was wearing a floral sundress and a large white visor that was covering her amber colored hair.

"Rosie, my dear!" She held out her arms to take Rosie from John's hands. Completely ignoring John, like usual, she brought her grandchild into the kitchen and set her in her own little carrier.

"Hello, Elizabeth." John said politely as he entered the kitchen. He noticed that Sherlock made the smart decision by staying in the car. Elizabeth already didn't like John but the fact that he came out as gay after marrying her daughter didn't help his case.

"John." She replied flatly, her attention fixed on Rosie.

"Alright well, I'll put her stuff on the counter then I'll be on my way." John waited for a response and wasn't surprised when all she did was fuss with Rosie's blankets and sunglasses.

John and Sherlock got out of there as soon as possible and sped off to their own private home. Their house has a similar exterior to Elizabeth's except it was a light yellow instead of navy blue.

After about 25 minutes of unpacking, the pair were finally settled in for their first week all alone.

"What should we do first?" John asked, putting the last shirt into the dresser.

"You already know." Sherlock smirked and took John in his arms and closed the bedroom door.
