(This carries on from Chapter 15 btw)

"Selling out a friend?"

Ruby swivelled round.

Hitch was standing there in a sharp white suit, swinging a mind reading device in his hands.
"Some pretty treacherous thoughts going on there kid," he commented.
"What are you doing here?" she sighed.
"I wanted to see this Froghorn fella too,"
"Well, feel free, I can't be bothered anymore. Maybe you and Clancy Crew can go and investigate together since you're so desperate for everyone to be chummy," Ruby snapped.

"Ok. Cut the baloney, Redfort, and tell me what's going on," Hitch said gently. "You're off your game, that happens to agents when they're distracted. I-hmm. Look, Agent Baker wouldn't let me fight Capaldi even after she killed Murphy because I was angry and distracted. I can see a similar thing is going on, and I'd rather not invade your mind."

Ruby gaped at him. She had never known that the previous Spectrum boss had died at the hands of Nine Lives Capaldi. So Hitch knew, to an extent, how she was feeling.

"It's just, Clancy's... uh," she sighed in frustration. "From the second I've told him about Spectrum, he's been so obstinate in never giving information about my job to anyone, even you at first, and kind of the only person I've turned to trust and count on for my whole life. Sure, he gets cheesed off at me and I at him, but not for a reason like this,"

"Like what?"

"He tries to keep snatching my watch from my wrist! I don't know where this weird fascination has suddenly sprung from, he's never been an obsessed techie guy..."
"The Bradley Baker Watch?" Hitch stared at her, suddenly stern and alert.
"Well, duh. That's the one on my wrist right now!" she replied, wondering why he was so het up.

"Redfort, have you any idea what power that watch on your skinny little arm can unleash where Spectrum is concerned? Have you discovered every nook and cranny of its potential? And have you no clue why Clancy would be trying to take it so desperately?" Hitch fired at her, his face a block of stone.
Faltering, Ruby replied, "Well, no obviously, all I know is it it can save lives when someone needs it,"

"So, by not giving it to Clancy, you very may well have endangered his. Did it not occur to you he may have been forced by sometime to pinch the watch? Someone who wants the dirt on Spectrum?"

Ruby's face drained all its colour, as Hitch discreetly grabbed her arm and pulled her over to wear the smarmy benefactor was sat.

The man's eyes gleamed in the half light as he caught Ruby staring at him. Most probably writing her off as another overexcited little kid, he shot her a lazy half smile with a wave.

Immediately, Ruby noticed his stiff gait, the rotund face and round stomach. Her heart sank as her knees wobbled for Clancy.

That man, although he looked eerily similar, was not Miles Froghorn.
