Part 10: Hmm, jealous much?

"Now's not the time for pleasantries, Clancy, I've got limited time before I've got to be back at Spectrum 4. Are you alright? LB alerted me immediately, which was relieving for a change because I was going out of my mind with worry for you." Olive informed him urgently in one breath without giving Clancy time to process what she had said before moving on.

"Why did you have to take this course anyway. Sure, you are a little... inexperienced, but surely this wasn't mandatory, now was it?" she sniffed. Clancy blinked.

Was he concussed? How did Olive know the word mandatory and inexperienced?! How did she know about Spectrum, and most of all if she did, how of all people, was she recruited?

He mustered up the closest thing to a glare and used it on Ruby, who smiled at him sheepishly. "So, uh, remember when Olive 'stole' the ground glows. Turns out she was told to modify them by the Spectrum 4 boss, Agent Chapman. I eventually found out, and we've kind of been collaborating ever since..." Ruby trailed off when she glanced at the livid and extremely hurt expression on Clancy's face.

His best friend and his youngest sister who both, admittedly sometimes were quite annoying, had been discussing without him. Shocker.

"Do not pull that face at me Clancy," Olive reprimanded sternly. "You, probably of people know the key rule; keep it zipped. Redfort here didn't tell me you knew up until the other day, so of course assumedly you were unaware, and I wasn't permitted to tell you either. No point grumbling about it now, you're just about to be carted off to the medical facility, then we will swiftly move onto how to subtly alert for help when in immediate danger when unable to utter a sound. Buh buh buh," the bossy five year old held up a hand when she heard Clancy's protests.

"Yes, I am well aware you've missed how to treat someone in a dire emergency, but is clear that Redfort is able to teach you that, seeing her attempts to bandage you up."
Ruby rolled her eyes at the childish words, and Clancy kept on wincing. Within a moment, he was hauled over someone's shoulder, going to one place he hated - the hospital.

Ruby, Olive and Clancy were soon sat in a bizarre theatre like stadium, about to watch a Spectrum agents go through the exact movements to do when signalling for help, and the short twenty minute play was supposed to help them all "digest the information properly,"

"Well, this is time for a twenty minute nap. Grab your eye masks everyone!" Olive muttered. Hey, I already know all this, and it's twenty minutes of my life I'm never going to get back, Olive thought when she caught Ruby glaring at her.

"Okay, now. Here is one VERY typical scenario. Agent 1 is about to venture onwards on a mission, while Agent 2, more wary and alert, lags behind a little to keep an eye on their surroundings," Agent Wetherall explained, motioning with her hands for her fellow retired agents to demonstrate what she was talking about.

"Let's say, the Count gets a tip off there are only two of you, brings Von Leyden and appears out of nowhere, Agent 1 gets captured and is potentially about to meet the end of their life. Agent 2 immediately had hid from capture, and CAN NOW signal to their partner the best way to escape by using their facial expressions WITHOUT UTTERING A SOUND. Squinting with one eye could mean 'kick him in the left leg,' or rubbing your hand on your forehead could mean 'Jump now!'. There are a number of different alternatives, and to make sure all of your can recognise the signs, with a seconds notice, you are all going to stay in this area and practice repeatedly until you are confident you can read the other's sign well. Partner up agents," Agent Wetherall finished with an elegant clap of her hands.

Clancy's eyes lit up, for the first time since they had came to that darned place. This was something he could excel in, and maybe even beat Ruby at... "Why the weird look on your face, Clance?" Ruby asked curiously. He shook his head, coming out of his daydream. "Oh, nothing..." he smiled mysteriously.
