It had been three months since Scott and Mitch had started dating, the school year was coming to an end and Mitch just wanted to make the most of the last few weeks with his boyfriend and all of his other friends who would graduate soon and then move on. Scott’s letter
from USC had arrived and even though everyone already knew he had gotten in, he had decided that wasn’t going to open it until that night because if by some off chance he didn’t get in, he didn’t want people to see him upset over it.
Mitch had gotten over the fear of losing Scott because he knew that his boyfriend loved him, flaws and all. He couldn’t believe he had ever doubted their relationship, Scott had always been there even when things had been tough and Mitch knew that it would never change. They were good together because they knew each other and because Scott had kept his word and been an amazing boyfriend. Even though there were problems, Mitch knew they would be okay.
*Flashback*
“I should’ve known you were just using Kirstie as a cover-up while you were off being bum buddies with Scott.” Some guy that Mitch had never even talked to before smirked at him while he was waiting for Scott and Kirstie to get out of class so that they could all have lunch together. He tried to just ignore the guy but he wouldn’t go away. “You’re pathetic, do you honestly think Scott cares about you either? You’re just their little pet so take it from me, they’ll be happy to get away from you.”
Mitch had had enough of this guy, “I don’t know who the hell you think you are but you don’t know anything about me, my boyfriend, or my best friend and just fyi I would never cheat on anyone. Especially not someone as amazing as Kirstie. Just because you don’t understand what love is doesn’t mean that I’m going to listen as you talk shit about mine. So please leave.” The guy continued to look at Mitch in shock. “I said you’re dismissed asshole, get out of my face.” Mitch put a hand on his hip and glared at the guy who looked like he wanted to strangle him.
No matter how scared Mitch was, he knew Scott would be there any second and… “I think my boyfriend said get out of his face and you better listen to him before I punch you in yours.” The guy glared at Scott and then stormed off and Mitch let go of a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He was still kind of shaken so he just laced his fingers with Scott’s and walked with his friends upstairs silently but once they got to their room he felt his breathing start to quicken and he started to cry.
Scott didn’t even have to say anything, he just pulled Mitch into his arms and allowed his boyfriend to sob. “Scotty, everyone is going to hate me if they don’t already. They all think I cheated on Kirstie and I can’t handle this. I thought he was going to hit me and we both know that I couldn’t fight back Scotty. I was terrified and the only reason I got through it was that was because I knew you were on your way, what am I supposed to do next year? Let’s face it Scott, you can’t protect me when you’re in California and Im here. I would spend my time constantly afraid and you would be constantly worrying about me. I’m not worth that kind of stress, you should just finish senior year, go to your dream school, and move on to someone who’s actually worthy of you. Someone who isn’t a burden.” Mitch wanted to say more but that was when Scott pulled away from him looking angry… great now he had pissed Scott off too.
