The school week had seemed to last forever and go by way too fast all at the same time. The days themselves felt like years that Scott had to go without kissing or holding Mitch but it felt like Sunday was coming faster and faster and he wasn’t ready for it. He knew that Mitch’s parents loved him, they treated him like a second son, but how would they feel about him dating Mitch? His parents had known about his feelings for so long that they would be happy for him so that wasn’t a problem. He knew he shouldn’t have been worried, they had been in his life just as long as Mitch had, but they knew him as Mitch’s best friend not his boyfriend. His first boyfriend at that. This was a big deal and he didn’t want them to hate him or think that he didn’t deserve Mitch… even though he knew he didn’t.
Mitch had spent every night this week at his own house trying to remind his parents that he was still the same Mitch even though he hadn’t actually told them anything so Scott had barely been able to kiss him at all. Scott had gym on A-days and health on B-days, so when Friday rolled around he was excited that it was an A-day because that meant he got to spend the last class of the day at least being near his boyfriend. He was going to ask Mitch to go on a date with him on Saturday before his parents came home, he really hoped the answer was yes because he had so much planned.
Scott had made himself late by stopping to make a phone call so he when he rushed into the locker room, he was the only person there. He quickly stripped himself and pulled his shorts and tank top on before turning around to walk out of the door and seeing Mitch leaning against the doorframe smirking at him. “I came back in here to grab something out of Coach’s office, but this is much more important.”
Mitch walked towards Scott until he was pressed against the lockers and the leaned in close to kiss him deeply before pulling back to kiss his neck. “Mitchie, we should… ah.” Mitch bit down and sucked on Scott’s neck. “Hey, we should probably. Um, go to class. You know, don’t want to be too late and all. Yeah. Uh…” His boyfriend pulled back and smirked at him.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. Rain check?” he raised an eyebrow and Scott remembered his plans, maybe he could add a little extra to their perfect night. He wrapped his arms around Mitch’s waist and brought him close, kissing his forehead before nuzzling his nose into his dark hair. Everything was counting on Mitch saying yes though so Scott thought he would take a leap of faith and ask.
“Oh totally, how about tonight. Let me take you on our first actual date?” Mitch pulled back to look at Scott’s face and all of the confidence he had shown just moments before melted away to reveal his sweet, shy smile. The one that made Scott’s stomach fill with butterflies and tilt his whole world off its axis because of the sheer beauty of it. The smile that had made him fall in love with Mitch and the smile that was making him want to wrap his arms even tighter around Mitch’s waist a kiss him again. So he did.
When they finally pulled apart from the sweet gentle kiss, they both grinned at each other and Mitch said, “I would love that. I’ll just ride home with you yeah?” Scott nodded and Mitch grinned again “Well I’ve got to grab those papers for coach. You wanna help me so that you don’t get into trouble?” Scott just nodded again, happy that Mitch had agreed to their date. He had so much planned and couldn’t wait to surprise him later that night. The two boys grabbed the stack of papers and walked out of the changing rooms. After sitting the stuff where their coach told them to, both boys took their spots sitting down and paying attention to instructions. They had a free day that day but they had to be outside, Scott could see the disgust in Mitch’s eyes and couldn’t hold in a chuckle. He hated the heat so much that it was ridiculous, and it was always hot in Texas.
