Taylor's POV

As midterms approached, Cayden and I had been meeting up in preparation for the series of exams which marked the end of the semester. Though we had exchange words, it was only out of obligation. Still, it pissed me off to have had to speak to him when didn't even want to look at him. Truth be told, it hurt to be with him. Did I even have the right to be as upset as I was? There was never any actual conversation declaring a relationship. Cayden didn't exactly seem like the exclusive type... or so he led me to believe.

Cayden set his pencil down. "Could we go over this alone more time? I don't think I'm doing this right." He pointed to a section he was working on. Though I wasn't looking at him I could tell his eyes were lingering on mine. When he finally peered down at the packet I looked at him. For a second there, I forgot that he hurt me, and I wanted him to belong to me. With a deep exhale I looked over his work. The answers so far were all right. Out of every subject Cayden and I were meeting up for, math was his forte. It was all there, he just had to apply himself. He knew it and I knew it.

"These answers are all correct." His eyes met mine which gave him away. "...And you already knew that. Okay, so do you actually need something or can I get back to doing my work now?" My voice was plain. There was a moment of silence. "Alright then, I guess not." A stiff smile lined my lips.

I returned my attention to my study guides. My eyes were glued to my study material as if I hadn't heard a single word come from his mouth. My heartbeat sped up a little. I took in a deep breath.

"Really, Taylor?"

I ignored him. Cayden sighed and continued to work on the packets in front of him. He dropped his pencil and turned toward me. "Fine." When I didn't look up to meet his blue-eyed gaze, he swiped my pencil and pulled my chair closer to his.

"Cayden, please." I gritted out through clenched teeth.

"Can we talk about this? Please?"

"What is there to talk about? Actions speak louder than words, Cayden, okay? I get it. I'm not her." Hearing myself talk about another girl in comparison to myself hurt a little.

"That's what I like about you, Taylor. You're you."

"Yeah, well judging by your standards, Taylor alone isn't good enough. Excuse me." I pushed my chair away from the table and got up. For the rest of the evening, we sat in silence with the exception of speaking for the sole purpose of helping him.

After seeing Cayden, I decided enough was enough. Jade and I had been feuding way too long over the dumbest reason, so I went to her house. She didn't let me in immediately, and it took some convincing. She opened the door eventually. When the door swung open, Jade was standing there.

I let out a sigh. "You were right."

Just then, she grabbed my hand. She yanked me inside and pulled me into a hug. Stunned, I stood there for a second with my arms by my side before throwing my arms around her. That right there was what I missed. Having my best friend when I needed her. Jade pulled back and I released my hold from around her waist. She was looking at me and I couldn't tell if it was because she wanted me to apologize first or if she wanted to say something.

"I'm so sorry," I said, though I didn't get the opportunity to say it first, or alone for that matter. Jade echoed my apology. Our hold on one another came undone.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Jade looked at me with compassion.

I nodded my head and Jade linked her arm in mine. We grabbed two pints of ice cream and other snacks, to bring up to her room. Jade and I laughed, talked and caught up with each other.
