Chapter 16
"I don't want to forget."
**

I'm running, and can't stop. Phoenix chases me in my own car. The car drivers faster catching my slow feet. I run my feet slapping the hot concrete. The sun beats down on my sweat dripping skin. My lungs pant for air, begging for a break. Why is Phoenix trying to run me over? This is a dream. It has to be!

I feel the heels of my feet hit the bumper of the car. One little push on the gas pedal and Phoenix will run me over.

"Please... stop!" I pant as I try to take in another breath. Aston's large black truck sits horizontally on the other end of the road, blocking my path. I'm going to die. I run into a yard in front of a tree and scream as the car comes speeding at me. I'm going to be smashed into this tree. The car is only a foot away, I close my eyes waiting for the impact. But it never comes, I open my eyes. I look around and now see I'm sitting in the car. I hear sobs and look over to see Phoenix crying. I look back to the road and see we are heading for the tree at full speed. My mouth opens to scream, but nothing comes out. Phoenix's sobs grow louder and I hear a beeping of a machine in the distance. I close my eyes waiting for the impact of the tree.

I open my eyes to a white ceiling with bright fluorescent lights buzzing. I blink to let my eyes adjust to the lights. I then hear sobbing and the steady beep of the machine. I look down at my arms to see needles running in and out of them. A thin white blanket lays over top of me. My vision blurs as I turn my head to fast. I notice Shawn sits in the chair beside my bed, sobbing. He must have been crying and I heard it through my dreams.

"S-Shawn," my voice comes out hoarse and scratchy. His sobs stop and he looks up to me with wide eyes.

My mom bursts through the doors, "doctor she's awake!"

Two doctors walk in with my mom, one escorts Shawn out of the room. He glances back at me with a frown before closing the door. A male doctor with gray hair and chiseled features examines my chart.

He tabs his chin, "my... my... you've been through a lot."

I frown, "w-what are you talking about."

He points to something on the chart that I can't see, "here it says that you have three broken ribs, a concussion, stitched leg, and arm if I may add, and also four broken bones."

I stare at him, shocked. What even happened and why am I in the hospital.

"Really? It's surprising you even survived. All the doctors thought you had died then on the spot, because of your labored breathing."

"What happened?"

He raises an eyebrow, "you don't remember?"

His voice sounds worried now. Pity flashed on his face as he scans the chart again. He rubs his chin, deep in thought. "It doesn't say anything about memory loss."

What!? Memory loss. I remember my mom, Shawn, and J, and Val. Who else am I suppose to remember?

"Doctor?"

He turns to me, for some reason I do feel like my brain has a black hole. That there is a piece of something in my memory missing, maybe it's someone?

"I don't want to forget?" My voice is just barely above a whisper and his frown deepens.

"We know," he says pityingly. "It's probably your brains way of reacting to the anesthesia. Everyone is different when it comes to that stuff." His face lightens a little, "how about I bring in some visitors to see if you have forgotten anything important."
