Hiccup's pov

The rest of my day was preoccupied with getting Astrid to Gothi, debriefing the gang and attending to some duties I had yet to complete.

By the time the day had slowed down, it was in the early evening. I decided to pay a visit to Astrid who was resting in Gothi's hut. The old lady wouldn't let her leave until she was certain Astrid's injury would heal properly.

I patted Toothless's head before heading inside and my buddy replied with an encouraging purr. "Thanks bud." I chuckled.

I hoped our apologies were not forgotten as I walked in and ran a hand through my hair slowly, watching Gothi inspecting Astrid's injury.

General narration

picture Hiccup running his hand through his hair slowly, his face with a small smile and lowered a little as he watched a smile on Astrid's face form. The room is only illuminated by a few candles, which casted a orangy glow on the young chief as he watched from the doorway.

Hiccup's pov

I leaned against the door post and smiled as Astrid thanked Gothi and turned her head a little, only to catch me staring.

"Evening." She greeted, outstretching her hand toward me.

I walked over and took it in mine gently, placing a sweet kiss atop of it. "Evening M'lady."

I sat at the edge of the bed and was careful to avoid touching her thigh. I leaned on my elbow and rested my head on her tummy. She brought both hands onto my head as she stroked my hair.

Gothi had left when I came in, so it was just me and her in the room. It was silent, except there were cricket noises and distant dragon calls outside and the occasional cackling of the fire in the fireplace.

I closed my eyes and I wished I could stay in this position forever. Her warm body beneath me and the sensation of her calming touches.

"We still have to talk you know." She brought up, breaking the serenity of it all.

I lifted my head up a bit and sighed as I stared into her eyes.

"I didn't mean what I said."

We both stated at the same time, which caused us to grin. Haha.

"You go first." Astrid prompted.

"All right." I inhaled deeply.

"I wasn't myself that day. I was tired and mad at the world. Had some drinks...lost my mind. Said some stuff I now regret deeply because," I reached out and placed a hand on her cheek.

"I lost you for a moment. Four months and two days was too long." I shrugged, pulling my hand back, but she grabbed and held it.

"You are always there for me Astrid. I don't get sick of you, heck, i've never! I lied to make you mad."

She nodded. "I know."

"You still got mad."

"Because I wasn't thinking straight. I refused to see the entire situation through and instead...that happened." She explained.

I smiled and sat up straight. I pried open the armour on my chest to take out the bethrothal necklace Astrid had returned. "My mum gave it back to me the next night." I muttered.

I noticed her lips pursed and I raised an eyebrow in concern as she stared at it.

Suddenly, she burst into tears. I listened in shock as she spoke through them.

"I am so sorry for mentioning Stoick; for rubbing salt in such a fresh wound. I'm so sorry for breaking off our engagement because I was so selfish. I'm a terrible person. I don't deserve....I don't..." she covered her eyes with both hands as her body racked with each sob.

I placed the necklace on the bedside table and carefully edged closer to her face to talk into her ear. I grabbed both of her hands and pulled them away from her face and made them wrap around my neck as I spoke, rocking her gently.

"Don't cry, baby. Everyone says things they don't mean sometimes. Everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect, Ast. And yes, you deserve everything good in this world. Don't say that. Don't say that..." I continued to comfort her.

"I'll never do that again. I can't." She sobbed quietly into my neck. I felt her warm tears and it was upsetting to see her in such a state. I never expected Astrid Hofferson to cry infront of me.

"I'm sorry Hiccup...never again-"

I had had enough of her apologies, so I did one thing that I knew would shut her up.

I kissed her, deeply.

Her words got cut off immedietally as she melted into it. She let out a loud sigh of content as we kissed, and I smiled into it.

I pulled away reluctantly, swiping the necklace off the tabletop gently and beckoning Astrid to lean forward.

She did so and I carefully tied the two ends together to seal the knot. We were together again, and I was the happiest man on earth.

I laughed in delight as she admired the beauty of the pendant. "I looked at it every night, knowing that one day...one day."

She didn't have to finish her sentence, because I knew.

"This means so much to me." She finished. After a few seconds, she let it drop against her chest and leaned back on the headboard.

"How's your thigh?" I inquired, turning my attention to her unfortunate injury.

"Better now. Gothi did something. Yuck." She made a face and I knew it was some of the weird stuff she did all the time.

"Ehh. I don't want to hear about it." I waved a dismissive hand.

"That was a great mission." She was looking up at the ceiling now.

I nodded in agreement.

"Sooo i'm going riding tomorrow." She dragged out.

I frown. "No you're not."

"Yes I am. I can't stay cooped up in here." She crossed her arms against her chest defiantly.

"That," I pointed to her thigh.

"Needs at least another two days before I would even consider you mounting Stormfly."

She groaned at that, but in a moment, a small smile overtook her annoyed features.

"Why are you smiling M'lady?" I asked, afraid she had any ideas up her sleeve.

"It's just a thought." She bit her lip.

Oh gods thats distracting.

"Share it with me?" I egged her on, poking her arm.

"You won't even let me ride Stormfly with this sucker. I couldn't help but think how strict you would be if I were pregnant."

My heart leapt at her revelation as I felt my face flush of all colour; but I replied, because it was inevitable.

"If you were pregnant," I started, assuming my first position to when I settled on the bed; chin resting on her upper leg this time, and a gentle hand pressed against her tummy; where our baby would most certainly be in the future.

"I wouldn't let you out of my sight. No riding, no streneous activities and definitely nothing I say no to is to be done." I announced firmly.

"Wow I can't wait to marry you." Astrid said sarcastically.

"I'm serious Ast. None of that. Promise?" I was a bit worried now.

Astrid's features softened. "Promise."

I let my eyes trail down to the hand that was resting on her tummy and pulled it away, instead replacing it with my lips and placing tender kisses all along the way and ending at her lucious lips.

I smiled. "Now I can't stop thinking about it."

"Then you better marry me fast Haddock." Astrid grinned.
