Confused.
Hurt.
Shocked.
Those were words that you could use to describe how I felt at the moment. Three seconds.
That's it. Three seconds and then he pulled back and whispered, "I can't do this."
He can't do that. That's unfair. For him to go ahead and play mind games with me. I am not a doll. I've gone through enough within the past three months. I haven't felt more rejected.
Not even when Michael hadn't shown up to that dance, not even when he cheated on me. That hurt me, but it didn't feel like rejection. So I don't remember anything of them before, I live off of what they tell me about myself before the accident. I'm lucky to be alive, and still have most of my memories. It just doesn't make sense to me.
---
"Come on," Vanessa whined, "You can't stay home, it's a Friday night!" She threw a pillow at me from on top of my bed.
I glared at her and then groaned, "I just want to stay home and watch re-runs of Pretty Little Liars, can't I do that?"
"No," she narrowed her eyes at me, "That is definetely not an option, you can do that on Saturday."
"No I can't," I pointed out, the fair was on Saturday and Vanessa had signed us both up to volunteer at one of the game booths, "You signed us up to volunteer, therefore, I am incapable of watching Pretty Little Liars, and I don't have a choice, where as tonight I do have a choice and I choose to stay home."
"You should be a lawyer," she muttered, "And no you do not have a choice because I am taking you with me."
"I don't want to go," I whined, think of an excuse Alicia..
"I don't have anything to wear anyways, Vanessa."
"Good thing I came by early, we still have time to go shopping," she sqeauled, "Omigod, this is going to be so much fun!"
"Vanessa!" I groaned and burried my face into the pillow that had been thrown at me.
"Alicia!" She said in a mocking voice.
I lifted my face from my pillow, "I don't want to go. It's going to be super awkward, I hate awkward. You know that," I pointed out.
"Why would it be awkward?" She asked, obviously forgetting the past events.
I gave her a look that said, 'really?'
"Oh," she mouthed.
"Yeah. Anyways it's his party and I really don't want to be near him," I stood up and placed the pillow back onto my bed before grabbing the sweatshirt that was laying on my chair. "You go have fun, I'll be fine."
"Nooo, you have to come!"
---
20 minutes later I was sitting in Vanessa's car. She had won the argument and was now dragging me along with her. I would just keep my head down the whole time and not talk to him.
---
"Hey, Alicia, nice to see you here," I looked up and saw a preppy looking blonde with a huge smile on her face talking to me.
"Oh hi..Nice to see you too.." I trailed off, not knowing who she was. Exactly why I didn't want to come. Awkward.
"Oh," she giggled, "Sorry, I'm Lindsay, we were on the cheer team together, you were so good!"
I was on the cheer team? Eww. Why? Vanessa probably talked me into it.
"Oh, um nice to meet you, um again," I forced a smile onto my face.
"You should totally join again!"
"You know what? I'll think about it." Maybe doing things from the past would help me remember. Worth a try. I smiled again and turned away towards the kitchen.
"Heya Alicia," a masculine voice called from somewhere behind me.
I whipped around, scanning the area for the voice that called my name, "Right here," I looked to my right to find a tall brunette standing next to me.
"Um, hi," I said shyly.
"Nick," he offered his hand.
I took his hand and shook it lightly, "Alicia."
He chuckled, "It's weird having to introduce myself again."
I laughed slightly, "Yeah..Texting while driving will get you that feeling."
He looked slightly uncomfortable, "Sorry about what happened."
I sighed, "S'not your fault."
Truth is, I didn't know whose fault it was. My phone was smashed in the accident and I hadn't contacted the phone company to trace the message that was sent to me. He sat down on the couch and motioned for me to join him, hesitantly, I sat.
"Did they ever find out who sent the message?" He asked.
I shook my head, "I never asked, I don't really want to know." What if was Vanessa? Or Zayn? That would change my whole point of view on them.
"I get it, I mean what if it was one of your friends?"
I nodded. He understood. Usually people pressed on about this question, but he didn't.
It's always a good time
Woke up on the right side of the bed
What's up with this Prince song inside my head?
Hands up if you're down to get down tonight
'Cause it's always a good time
'Good Time' by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen blasted through the speakers, startling me.
Nick chuckled, "It's just music, not a monster."
"Haha, yeah." Wow, way to make a fool out of yourself.
"Hey, umm," He ran his hand through his hair nerveously, "Do you want to um, dance or something?"
I smiled, "Sure." I couldn't sit around the whole night. Might as well dance.
~Zayn's P.O.V~
I hadn't seen Alicia since yesterday, when I so rudely pulled away from our kiss. But I had to. Liam had her first, I wasn't going to ruin our friendship over my selfishness. I looked up and saw people dancing on the dance floor and then I spotted her.
Dancing.
With.
Nick.
Really Nick? Do you really think that's smart?
After a few songs, he led her outside. And I couldn't stop them and ask to dance with Alicia, not after what I did. But Liam could. I scanned the room for Liam. No sign of him. I felt a hand on my shoulder, "What?"
"There's a fire in the kitchen, Zayn."
