chapter one:
welcome to the town of Hawkins
7:15 am Tuesday November 6 1983
The blinding, scorching hot sun glared from the outside window as a rush of wind came inside the little restaurant. The bell attached to the door where the 'We're open' sign hung, rang. A brunette walks through, her loose grey shirt that was partially tucked in her blue jeans flapped the slightest bit. She pulled her hair band, letting her beautiful brown waves to cascade down, the tips of her locks touching her shoulders. She walks up to the counter waving to her kind uncle.
"Hi Uncle Benny! What time should I start my shift?" she shot him a dazzling smile earning a smile back.
"Hey Jane! Uh...in about ten minutes!" he smiled and walked back into the small office.
She nods and go behind the counter to grab the red apron and wrap it around her waist and neck, untucking her hair from behind the band that stretched behind her neck afterwards. She sits down on one of the couches with the view of the beautiful sunrise as she gazed at the sight in awe. Despite being born in Hawkins, the town never ceased to impress her. Everything there was truly beautiful and she tries to always appreciate the little things most tend to forget and take for granted. She soon stands up when the door opens and a group of boys walk through. She smiles and go behind the counter to turn the speakers on and let the soft music relax the atmosphere around them. 'Time After Time' plays as she walks to the menus. She takes them and walk to the four boys who took her place from the couch and window.
"Hey Guys! What do you want to order today?" she smiles sweetly, earning the boys' attention. The one with golden curls smiled,
"Can I have the French Toast with a side of eggs and bacon?"
"Sure! Would you like a drink with that sir?" Jane scribbles down his order.
"Uh, how about a cup of coffee?" He smiles politely.
"Yes of course! How about you boys?" she looks over to the three other boys, recognizing the ebony curls and sharp cheekbones.
"Ah, Mike Wheeler. And...Will Byers? Is it?" she giggles placing her menus in front of them. Will smiles, knowing the Jane Hopper knew his name. Mike on the other hand, was shocked that she knew him by name. They of course knew each other, but never talked once, except for the little hellos here and there.
"Uh...yes! Can I have the ham and cheese sandwich? With a cup of green tea." Will asks earning a nod from the girl as she scribbles that down too.
She looks over to the boy who was already staring at her. Their eyes lock as he looks away clearing his throat.
"Can I have the waffles and water please?" he says, still not moving his brown eyes to meet hers.
"Sure..." she laughs nervously and walks back to the counter with awe. She leans back on the counter letting the breeze the fan created, tousle her hair.
She felt shaken up. The way their eyes met. The way she felt. She felt as if a ticking bomb of butterflies just exploded, as cliche as that sounds. She shudders, feeling the intensity when their eyes met. The way she seemed to see his whole soul just by taking a peep into the 'window to the soul'. She shakes it off and deliver them their food, this time, not letting her own eyes meet his.

8:30 am
Jane arrives in the school just in time, tying her brown hair into a messy ponytail, not letting the fragrance of her hair escape. She grabs her backpack and rush of to class, which happened to be the class where the grumpiest teacher, was yet blabbing on and on about things she wouldn't need to possibly know in the future. She definitely had no time for the complete garbage they taught. She didn't understand why she needs to know the square root of what and the value of pi. Why wouldn't they teach on how to have better character or teach anything that will actually help them. She sat down and took her notes, doodling random shapes and trying her absolute best to pay attention.

Mike ran to the school, barely making it in time. He was still a bit shaken up from the recent events. He didn't understand why he felt that way when their eyes locked. He's seen her before. He's also talked to her multiple times. Why is he feeling this way? He didn't understand but tried to forget about it. After all, she was untouchable. She was the little princess of the king. Untouchable, unbothered.
(shoot every breath you take just started playing while i wrote help)
"Mr Wheeler! How nice of you to actually go to class! Sit down or you get detention for a week." Mr Brenner chided, slapping his ruler to the board where a tonne of notes were scribbled on. He rolled his eyes and nodded, fishing the worn out notebook out of his bag. He copied the notes down, trying to ignore the lovestruck stares all the girls were giving him. He was practically used to it. But he wasn't interested, and that was that. But one did catch his eye. The only girl not giving him any stares, was the one and only Jane Hopper, her chin resting on her palm, her eyelids half closed. She looked extremely bored and drummed her fingers on her table. He couldn't help but stare at the stunning girl, who didn't even try to be gorgeous but nevertheless, breathtaking. Until...
shoot.
Her eyes flickered to meet his, as his eyes grew wide and looked away immediately, clearing his throat, a tint of pink coloring his cheeks as he looked out the window, tapping his foot.
He hear a tiny giggle and risked a little glance at her. She was giggling softly, the corner of her lips turned up into an amused little smile. He smiled a bit, and continued to take notes and doodles, his mind containing only one person.
Jane Eleanor Hopper.
