Everything seemed bleak and grey after the fight between the two lovers. The new group was once again, split into two, and although they were still friends, the tension was evident and was thick in the air.

Mike had turned into a quiet boy, always having his headphones on, and always silent and only spoke when he had to. Although his lips barely moved, his mind was always a mess. He rarely payed attention and would always have to ask what the person was saying.

Jane acted as normal as she could. Greeting everyone with a strained smile, and tried to be as talkative as she was before. Unlike Mike, she put on a facade, and was in denial of how she was feeling. She laughed as much as she could, and although her friends saw right through it, she insisted that she was fine.

Her father didn't notice at all. He thought he made the right choice. In his eyes, Mike was a boy not worthy of his daughter's love. No, what he did was best. Jane understood completely and agreed with him, or so he thought.

If only he saw what happened in her bedroom. The notebook overflowing with words that she angrily scribbled or tearfully wrote. She was in a dangerous place, denying her feelings and breaking down the minute her door locked. She was trying to convince herself that she didn't like Mike. That she didn't even miss him. She was denying everything her heart was yelling at her to understand.

Their friends were worried, and often muttered their concerns, but then coming to the conclusion that they always go to.

They can't do anything. This is between Mike and Jane.

"Max!"

The redhead turned at the sound of her best friend's voice. A grin stretched across her freckled face as Lucas catches up to her.

"Hey Lucas! What is up?" she stretched the U, making the boy laugh.

"Guess what Dustin and I found?" he said excitedly. Max nodded curiously.

"We were in Mike's place, and we found the cutest picture of him and Jane." he laughed, indicating it was more of an embarrassing picture, not a 'cute' one.

He passed an old photograph to Max, who immediately bursts into laughter.

"HE'S LITERALLY KISSING HER I CANT BREATHE-"

They were both dying of laughter in the middle of the hallway, people were giving them death glares. But they couldn't care less.

"This is...great...blackmail." Max wheezed in between laughter.

Lucas just smirked.

Lunchtime rolled around, and the girls were in this deep discussion about the new boy i'm school.

"Honestly, he's literally so...bright? Like blond hair, pale skin, blue eyes. He's like an angel." Beverly remarked as she popped a grape in her mouth.

"Eh...not my type. He's too...I don't know. But poor guy, all the girls are already making googly eyes at him and following him around like a stalker." Jane scoffed, picking her sandwich apart. Max snorted.

"Let's be honest here. The guy isn't hot, it's just he just has biceps." Max laughed.

Their conversation continued until Jane started to tear up.

"Okay well she was definitely harassing him- Jane? Jane oh my gosh what's wrong baby?" Max stopped mid-conversation to tend to her. Beverley did too, shielding them from everyone's view.

"I've been so stupid guys! I pushed him away and hurt his feelings and didn't even apologize!" she blubbered, making Max strike her hair and Beverley to give her tissues.

"Hey hey, it isn't too late to apologize. And...did you mean it? About you not liking him?"

The brunette thought about it, and she knew deep down she did. She has been, but it was so complicated.

"I do like him. I do. Oh my gosh I do." she face palmed. How could she have been in denial for so long?

Max and Beverley smiled, before Max smirked, an idea coming in her brain.

"I know how you can get him back."
