PERCY POV

-•-•-•-•-

Percy woke up the next day to the smell of pancakes. The smell alone was enough to make Percy sit up, get out of bed, and follow the scent trail.

When Percy arrived in the kitchen, Percy saw his mom making pancakes and Paul looking over her shoulder eagerly. Percy smiled at the eager look on his step-father's face.

"Hey Paul," Percy said, sneaking up behind him. Paul jumped and looked at him with a startled expression that easily changed to delight.

"Percy! Sally didn't tell me you were home!" Paul exclaimed and wrapped his step-son in a hug. Percy laughed and hugged him back.

He didn't say it very much, but he was really grateful to have a step-father like Paul. Smelly Gabe had always treated him like dirt, but Paul treated him like the best thing in his life.

"Hey Paul," Percy started. Paul turned to him, his giddy grin still plastered on his face.

"Yeah?" He replied.

"Thanks." Paul looked at Percy in confusion.

"What for?" He queried.

"You know," Percy said with a smile.

"PANCAKES ARE READY!!!" His mom yelled into the kitchen. Paul and Percy bolted to the table, eagerly sitting down.

On the table was a huge plate of blue pancakes, bacon, various blue fruit, and blue eggs. Percy grinned.

"Thanks mom; this is my favorite!" Percy said and began digging in. His parents were doing the same.

When Percy had finished, he sat back in his chair and sighed deeply. For the first time in awhile, Percy had a full stomach.

"That was really good mom," Percy sighed. Sally grinned.

"I'm glad you thought so. I made it just for you after all."

Paul stood up and clapped his hands together. "Alright, well I'm going to go check the mail. I'm supposed to get refund from the school board and I want to see if it's arrived," he explained and headed out the door.

Percy and his mom chatted for awhile, Percy giving her quick updates about Annabeth and telling about his adventures with the seven. Sally listened intently, nodding and giving small "mhmm's" every once in awhile.

Soon, Paul came in with a dark gray envelope and a few bills. Paul put the dark envelope in front of Percy.

Sure enough, the letter was addressed to Percy Jackson. Percy ripped open the letter.

Dear Percy,

I'm really sorry about what happened earlier this week. I should've realized that Annabeth was there.

Anyways, I really hope you've settled in well. My new foster home is amazing; it's practically like a mansion! Also my foster mother and brother are really nice. I'm so lucky to have gotten this house. I'm pretty sure it's the best one I've had in my entire life.

So how are you? Did you hear Jason is going to Camp Jupiter instead of Camp Half-Blood? It's really sad. My only friend is leaving :(. Well, besides you anyways.

Write back soon!

-Nico

Percy was surprised that Nico's letter had arrived so soon. Camp had only ended the day before.

"Who's it from?" Paul asked, looking over his shoulder curiously.

"Nico. Remember the kid that came over on my sixteenth birthday?" Percy reminded his mom.

"Oh yes! The son of Hades!" Sally exclaimed, suddenly remembering.

"Yep," Percy said, a soft smile forming on his lips. Nico really was a good friend once you got to know him. Loyal and kind. Sort of like someone he knew but he couldn't place the exact person.

Percy was pondering who Nico reminded him of when the doorbell rang. Paul went over to the door.

"Hi! Is Percy there?" A soft voice asked.

"Oh hello Annabeth. Yes, he's right here. PERCY, YOU'RE GIRLFRIENDS HERE!!!!" Paul yelled from the door. Percy got up and walked over to Annabeth.

When he got to the door, Annabeth broke out in laughs. Percy looked at her confused and she simply pointed to his chest. Percy looked down and realized he was only wearing boxers.

"Oh, uh, be right back!" Percy said awkwardly and raced away. When he got to his room, he slipped on a blue tshirt and some jeans. Sure it was summer, but jeans were the closest thing to blue that didn't clash with his shirt.

Since when did he care about things clashing?

Percy shrugged the random thought away and quickly have his hair a quick comb-through and brushed his teeth. When he reentered the living room, Annabeth was sitting on the couch talking to Paul.

"So, Percy tells me you like architecture," Paul said, trying to make small talk. Percy hid around the corner and listened intently.

"Um, yeah I do. I redesigned Olympus," Annabeth said distantly. Percy started at Annabeths uncertainty. Annabeth was pretty much always focused. Well, as focused as an ADHD teen could get anyways.

That's when Percy decided to walk in.

"Hey!" Percy said enthusiastically. Annabeth looked at him, her stormy gray eyes full of doubt.

"Hi," Annabeth echoed. Percy tilted his head.

"What's wrong?" Percy said, suddenly panicky. Was Annabeth sick?

"Hey, do you want to go for a walk?" His girlfriend asked. Percy nodded and held Annabeth's hand. She gently let go. Percy stared at her, stung.

What was wrong?

"Just come on," she said flatly. He tried to kiss her on the cheek but she reeled back. Heartache spread through Percy liked a hurricane. Was it something he said?

Percy followed Annabeth, his chest hollow and his heart ripped to pieces.

When Annabeth parked the car, she turned to him, despair in her eyes.

"Look, I really don't want to do this to you because I know you really care about me and all, but I've thought long and hard about this, and I've decided that I need to follow my heart, because I don't want our relationship to be one-sided," Annabeth said coldly.

"Annabeth, what do you mean?" Percy said in confusion.

Annabeth turned to him, her stormy gray eyes as cold as a snowstorm.

"We're over."
