The Longest Ride

Jack's POV.
    As I walk into the house I hear Daniel ask, "What's your point?" But I'm too distracted to answer because the second I walk in I see Jonah laying on the floor with a bullet hole in his stomach. I drop the phone and run to Jonah. He sees me and says, "Corbyn and Zach were shot too."
I hear Daniel on the phone yelling, "Jack!"
I pick up the phone and reply to Daniel, "You need to meet me at the hospital. I have to go."
Then I hang up the phone and start to dial 911 as I tell Jonah, "Hang tight. Everything's gonna be ok."
I call 911 and tell them that my friends have been shot. Then I find Zach and Corbyn in the living room, both shot. Corbyn is shot in the side and is trying to keep the bleeding under control with his shirt. Zach is laying face down on the floor with a bullet in his back, unconscious. I run to Zach and try to wake him up. He is bleeding all over the floor so I grab a towel and wrap it around him.
I say, "Zach! Zach, wake up!" I kick Zach in the side as I'm angrily crying, "Wake up sleeping beauty, wake up!"
I fall to my knees and sob over Zach's unconscious body. A few minutes later I hear ambulance sirens and paramedics come in. They load Jonah, Zach, and Corbyn onto stretchers and get them into ambulances. I jump in the ambulance with Corbyn and we head to the hospital.
Still in shock and almost to tears, I ask, "What happened?"
Corbyn replies in pain, "Someone knocked on the door—Jonah went to answer it. Zach and I were in the living room when Jonah was shot. Zach and I got up and I started to run to Jonah when I was shot. Then they shot Zach as he was trying to get away."
"What did they look like?" I asked.
Corbyn answered, "I don't remember. It all happened so fast. I do know that there were two of them and they acted like they knew Jonah."
I wonder, "Do you think it could've been..." Corbyn screeches in pain. He is really pale and covered in blood. I sit there while he is in pain, not knowing what to do. I put my hand on his arm and tell him, "It's gonna be ok. We're almost there."
Corbyn clutches his fist and lays back on the gurney. He looks at me with a sad look on his face and tries to take a deep breath. He tries to close his eyes but I tell him to keep them open. When we arrive at the hospital the paramedics take Corbyn out of the ambulance and into the emergency room. Zach and Jonah come in behind us. A doctor comes up to me and asks, "Are you family?"
"I'm their friend. We all live together, we're like brothers." I reply, "Their names are Jonah, Corbyn, and Zach."
"Ok. Wait in the waiting room and we'll update you soon," the doctor responds and goes to help them. I sit down in the waiting room and call Daniel.
Daniel says, "Hey what's going on?"
"I'm in the waiting room. Zach, Corbyn, and Jonah were shot and they were just taken into the ER. Where are you?" I reply.
Daniel answers, "Y/n and I are on the way in. We'll be there in a minute."
I respond, "Ok."
A minute later Daniel and Y/n show up. Y/n asks, "How bad were they hurt?"
I reply, "Jonah was shot in the stomach, Corbyn was shot in the side, and Zach was shot in the back."
A doctor then comes up behind and asks, "How old are your friends?"
I reply, "Jonah is 20, Corbyn is 19, and Zach is 17."
The doctor responds, "Ok. Jonah and Corbyn are going into surgery now. Zach needs surgery as well, but we have to have parent consent before taking him to surgery because he's a minor."
"Ok, but I don't know how fast his parents will get here. Are you sure you can't just go ahead and take him to surgery?" I ask.
The doctor answer, "I'm sorry. Those are the rules." The doctor walks away and I call Zach's mom. A little bit later Zach's parents show up and give consent for the surgery. Leah, Cheyenne, and Raven show up just a few minutes after Zach's parents show up.
"I just heard. What happened?" Leah asks as she comes into the waiting room.
"They were shot," I reply while trying to hold back tears, "I came into the house and there they were. Lying on the floor, covered in blood, all three of them were shot."
Leah has tears in her eyes and it looks like she is about to cry but instead she says, "They'll be ok. I know they will because, they have to be ok."
Y/n goes to Leah, puts her arm around her, and responds, "Let's sit down."
We all sit down. Zach's mom starts to cry. I put my arms around her and Daniel holds her hand. Daniel says, "Leah's right. They're going to be ok."
We sit there for hours before a doctor comes out to talk about Jonah. We all stand. The doctor says, "Jonah was shot in the stomach, which caused a lot of problems, but we were able to get him healed up. He is recovering in the ICU, but he will be just fine."
"What about Corbyn and Zach?" Cheyenne asks.
The doctor answers, "Corbyn and Zach are still in surgery, but someone should be out to let y'all know about them shortly."
"Ok. Thank you." Daniel replies.
A few minutes later a doctor comes to tell us, "Corbyn is out of surgery and is in recovery now. You can see him, but be aware that he is in a lot of pain and may not feel ready for visitors. Corbyn lost a lot of blood, but he's lucky."
Zach's mom asks, "Have you heard anything about Zach?"
The doctor responds, "Last I heard, he was still in surgery, but I'll check and get back to you."
"Ok. Thank you." Myta replies.
Y/n takes a deep breath and says, "I can't believe this is happening."
"Do you think Zach will be ok?" Raven asks.
"I can only hope so." Y/n responds.
"He's gonna be ok," Daniel says, "He has to be ok. I don't know what we would do without him."
"Should we go see Corbyn and Jonah?" Leah asks just as a doctor comes to us.
"What is it?" I ask.
The doctor answers, "When the bullet entered Zach's back, it hit his airway and one of his main arteries. We were able to get the bullet out, but blood from his artery got into his airway. We stopped the bleeding, but there has still been a lot of damage. The eternal bleeding caused him to go into a coma and we won't know exactly how bad the damage is until he wakes up. There is a strong chance that he could be paralyzed or possibly brain dead, but we really won't know until later. He is in the ICU right now, but I just wanted you all to prepare yourselves. We are trying everything we can to save him."
