"Don't be like that baby. I came all this way to talk to you. Don't you think you should at least listen?"  Marcus had that tone in his voice, the one that used to charm the guys and make the girls drop their panties at his feet, mine included. Now it just made me feel sick. I took a look at him, noting his stylish jacket, fresh faded haircut, golden brown skin and the good looks that had once made me a whimpering puddle that followed his every command. Now he looked plain and uninteresting, and I tried my best not to panic at his sudden appearance.

"Firstly, I'm not your baby. Secondly, no one asked you to come here. You wasted your airfare as far as I'm concerned. I don't owe you anything." I tried to sound as tough as I could, but I hoped he didn't hear the tremble in my voice or see my hands start to shake. I edged ever closer to the sofa.

"Aliah, there's that fiery spirit I always loved about you. No wonder I missed you so much. I think we have a lot to discuss." He reached out his hand to touch my cheek but I ducked away and finally hit the end of the couch.

"Marcus, get out. I have a boyfriend and he won't like it if you're here." His face changed then, contorting into some harsh replica of what he usually looked like, disgust written on his features as he looked at me.

"You mean that punk ass guy who was on the phone when I called you?  Please, don't play me," he said dismissively.

"That 'punk ass guy' is more of a man then you'll ever be." I shot back, my anger making my words harsher and more contemptible than I'd wanted them to be.

At that what was left of his calm slipped away as if it had never been there. I was left with nothing but an ugly face as he looked at me, a sneer on his lips.

"So you like that Bruce Lee wannabe better than me, huh? You think he'll take care of you? Or do you just want to make me jealous?" His voice had gone deep and dangerous. This wasn't good and I felt behind me for my phone, exhaling in great rush of breath when my fingers touched the cool metal.

"Make you jealous? The moment I left you was the moment I stopped thinking about you," I had no idea what was wrong with me, but the words were leaving my mouth faster than I could think of the consequences.

In an instant Marcus's face shifted again and the rage I saw in his eyes was something I'd never seen before. On instinct I backed away from him with cell phone in hand, already dialing the police.

"Get out now Marcus, I'm calling the cops." I dialed the 119 number and started to speak to the woman on the line in Korean. I told her someone had come in and wouldn't leave the house; I told her that I was in danger. My palms were sweating and my breath was coming out in short bursts as I fought back the panic. I kept eye contact with Marcus who seemed to only get angrier the longer I stayed on the phone. I was afraid to hang up as Marcus started towards me, hate lining the features of his face.

"Call the damn cops bitch and see what happens!"

With his hand raised, Marcus lunged for me and I let out a scream as he grabbed my hair.

"You think this is a joke Aliah? You think you can just walk away from me?!" he yelled while shaking me by my hair, the pain of it making me cry out.

"Let me go! Let me go, Marcus!" Tears came to my eyes and I couldn't think. I struggled against him but he grabbed me tight and I couldn't fight him off.

"No way. You just forgot what you were missing. But don't worry baby, I can remind you." His free hand grabbed my face roughly and as he leaned in to kiss me, I smashed my forehead against his. Marcus let me go and howled in pain, blood coming from his nose. A part of me wanted to watch him in pain, but the smarter side told me to run.

I was in the hallway before he could chase after me. My chest was beating hard as I ran down the hall, not wanting to wait for the elevator. I moved towards the emergency stairs, looking behind me to see if he'd caught up. What I didn't expect was for him to be right behind me, that same rage still in his eyes. I saw his fist coming but I couldn't avoid it, the force of him hitting me knocking me into the brick wall behind me. I hit my head again as I fell to the floor and I saw stars before everything went black.

I came awake with a start, pain exploding at the back of my head, a trickle of sticky wetness running down the side of my face. I cracked only one eye open; the other seemed swollen shut and tried to fight back the need to throw up as my dizzy head rebelled. My glasses weren't on my face and everything looked blurry as I tried to see my surroundings. I was lying face down in a car, but I had no idea how I'd gotten here. I could hear sirens but I didn't know where they were coming from or what was happening.

The car was shifting wildly which was not helping my already roiling stomach. I could hear Marcus cursing to himself, his words flowing fast and angry. I realized that the police must have been after him. Now he was running away and trying to take me with him! I felt the panic rise in my throat; I had basically been kidnapped.

I sat up slowly in the backseat, trying not to bring any attention to myself as Marcus weaved in and out of traffic. The left side of my face was numb, the wetness on my face seemed to be blood, but there wasn't much of it and other than that I was fine. I had to think of a way to get out. Anything to get away from the crazy ex-fiancé running from the police. A quick look outside told me that we were too close to the other cars to make jumping out an option. Maybe I could steal the wheel from him... I looked to the right through the backseat window and saw a large truck coming, but Marcus was still moving toward the intersection.

"Stop! Marcus stop the car!" I screamed, my voice reaching a pitch that made Marcus' head snap back to look at me.

"What?" He turned around in shock to look at me and suddenly it was too late. The truck was there and it smashed into us. I went flying into the right-side door as the car flipped and rolled, hitting my head once again. Things faded out once more and soon I wasn't able to think past the blackness that engulfed me.
