Lalaith received letter from Eressia, inviting her in the grounds of the white palace. She trembled and fell on her knees. It was end of the week, which only meant that Eressia was going to die. Halias helped her on her knees and looked at her face closely.
"You must go when she is asking for your presence. You shouldn't put all the blame on yourself." He said, trying to make her understand. His tune was soft and polite. She looked up at him with a sad face and nodded.
"But I am scared." She whispered.
"Overcome your fears, Lalaith." He replied and walked away. She stared at him as he went away. She looked at the letter one more time and walked out of the room.
When she reached the garden, everyone else was already present there. Eressia was standing in the middle. Her friend Elsa was taking her daughter away. As she walked near her, everyone looked up at her. Lalaith gulped and took her place beside Lily. She looked at the blue sky and sighed.
"Thank you for coming here." Eressia said and looked at Midas. "Come, Midas. Now is time." Midas glanced at Lalaith before walking towards Eressia, but she was looking somewhere else. "Don't be afraid, you were meant to do this." Eressia murmured.
Argon stopped in front of her and glanced back at Finduilas. "Why do I have to kill you?" He asked, gravely.
"It is because you are the only living black dragon, Midas." Lalaith answered. Finduilas stared at him and moved few steps towards them.
"You can't kill her, Argon." She cried. Lalaith glanced at her and a barrier appeared in front of her, stopping her from moving further. "Argon, stop!!" Her cries were in vain. Lalaith looked at Eressia and saw her eyes darkening, she was going to lose humanity forever.
"Midas, get ready." Lalaith called and closed her eyes. She was going to take all the good from her soul. Eressia wanted to scream but she bit her lips and closed her eyes. Valandil looked at her with sorrowful eyes. He was hopeless, he was all alone. There were many people stronger than him. He was unable to defeat any of them.
"Please stop." He whispered to himself and looked away, as Eressia screamed in agony and pain. Slowly she stopped feeling pain of something being pulled out of her, something that was part of her soul. She lost the good inside her. Lalaith fell on her knees and shouted. "DO IT."
"Midas, now!!" She gasped for breath. Without a single thought Midas raised his hands and closed his eyes. Gold light spread all around Eressia and she screamed.
Everyone closed their eyes and listened hard. Her scream was unbearable. Lalaith looked at the light as she felt Eressia's powers faded. Valandil ran forwards as Eressia fell down and the light vanished. He lifted her in his arms and hugged her.
"I am sorry, Valandil." Eressia whispered and put her right hand on his left cheek. "Live... well. Forgive....me." Tears were rolling down her cheeks. "Take care....of Lila." She said about her daughter and looked at others around her. Midas was staring at her with overwhelming sadness. "Thank you." Her hand fell and her head rolled at her side. Valandil screamed and hugged her tightly. Finduilas fell on her knees and stared at Midas with shock.
"Why you?" She said with gritted teeth.
"I was made for this. I am sorry, Finduilas." He replied, still looking away from her.
"How can you say that?" She shouted.
"Because I know why I was made and lived till today." He replied and glanced at her. He walked out of the garden without a single word.
"You cannot blame him for these things." Lalaith said and walked towards where Finduilas was, on her knees.
"Get lost." Was all Finduilas said.
