Chapter ten
A few days had passed and Levi was finally healed. Liv says to the group, “You should go, if you stay any longer he will find you.”. Kyle's eyes dim and his smile drops, along with the berry he was about to eat, “w-what?” he asks, his eyes brimming with tears. “It’s not safe here anymore. I’m sorry.” she replies, looking down. Coral walks to her twin and wraps him in a tight hug, before leading him away from the alpha. Rouge and Nico just nod and then Levi walks over carrying a few backpacks. Angel takes one of the bags before heading out, walking over to the twins. Liv looks at Rouge. “You know what to do.” She says painfully. Rouge nods once, lips pursed and eyes grim. Liv makes a shooing motion at them, wanting them to go. Rouge gathers everyone and they head out of the village, all except Kyle who didn’t seem to be able to move from his place at the edge of town. Angel looks at Kyle, patting his shoulder. “Everything will be okay. Who knows. You might see her again.” she says rubbing his back. “I just.. I don’t know. It feels like i need to be with her.. And that by leaving it might kill me..” he mumbles sadly, heartbroken. “She could be feeling the same, but doing this for your own safety. She cares about you, enough to lose you.” Angel replies. He nods slowly then turns and walks towards his siblings, not noticing as Liv watches him leave with the same heartbroken expression. Angel catches up with the others, each now having a bag as they walk back into the forest.
“-And the fish swam away again!” Kyle finished screaming his song, everyone had noticed the farther away from the camp the happier he got. Angel looked at him worriedly while the others just laughed and soon they started up a new song, ‘jolly sailor bold’. Angel sighed and soon sang along with them as they walked into new territory
”My name it is Maria, a merchant's daughter fair,
And I have left my parents and three thousand pounds a year,
My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold,
There is nothing can console me but my jolly sailor bold.”
They finished the song, an oddly cold wind sweeping around them, causing all of them to get goosebumps and rouge to look around suspiciously. “How did it get so cold all of a sudden?” Angel says rubbing her arms, to keep warm. Coral frowns and glances around, “maybe a mage is close by or something…” she replies unsure. The mer stood there in silence. A few minutes go by, the air only getting more chilled and the mer getting restless as their minds wander, contemplating the worst. “We should keep going before we freeze to death,” Angel says, her teeth chattering. “Imma dragon..” kyle mumbles trying to lighten the mood as he breathes out, his breath fogging into a swirling mini-cloud. Angel just starts to walk off. “Good luck freezing out here then.”, Nico turns to Rouge a confused expression, “what’s a dragon?” he asks quietly causing Rouge to laugh and shake his head before pulling the smaller boy away and after Angel. Coral grimaces, “it reeks like blood.” she states. Angel soon screams in the distance, running back to the twins with blood on her shirt and hands. Her face was stark-pale and she stutters, “i-i tripped a-a-and fell on a p-person..” Soon after Rouge came back to the others, grim expression masking their faces. “Dead body.. Vampire attack.” Rouge states, no emotion in his voice whatsoever. “D-does that mean t-t-they are still a-around?” Angel asked stuttering, still scared. Rouge nods, “the body was fresh. We’re in their territory and we need to go. Now. before they decide they want a larger meal.” he starts walking east, towards the sea. Angel hurries to catch up with him, but ends up letting out a scream for help as a tall man drags her off course and slams her against a large tree trunk. The other mer stopped walking and immediately started searching for the short pink-haired gal. Angel kept screaming for help, even their names, while trying to get away from the tall man. “Will you stop fucking screaming already?!” the man shouts, clamping an ice-cold hand over her mouth. Angels eyesight blurred with tears and she tried biting into his hand, but to no avail. Coral grabs the others before they can rush to the girls aid and smiles, “stop. Let her do this one herself.” she demands, an evil look in her eyes. “What! But she would be one of them, or dead if we don’t help!” Nico yells frantically. Rouge growls, “Nico is right. We can’t just leave her to fight off a vampire alone! This isn’t a game Coral!” he shouts, just as a cold hand was placed on his shoulder from behind, “but games are so much fun.” a deep and teasing voice says, the guys breath reeking of blood. More vampires grabbed the others from behind, clamping hands over their mouths with a white rag covering their noses and mouths so they had no choice but to breath the chemicals, “i won’t hurt you.” the man says to Angel, placing a similar rag over her face as well. She had no choice but to breath in, and blacking out.
