I slowly turned the doorknob and stepped inside with Derek close behind me. "Hello?" I called out like the one dumbass in every scary movie. Derek pat my shoulder and pointed. I followed his finger and my eyes widened. "No way!" I grinned, sighing in relief.

"My boys."

"Uncle Joe what are you doing here?" I asked as I neared him while Derek shut the door.

He stood up from the couch, "Your father sent me here to check up on you guys."

"Oh," I furrowed my eyebrows. "Well, we're good here."

He held his hand out and I took it in my as he pulled me in for a hug. "Did I scare you?" he asked, releasing me from his hold.

"Not really, I was just confused."

"You scared me, Unc," Derek admitted, making him chuckle. He always got a little paranoid when things were out of the ordinary.

"That's why you shouldn't leave the spare key under the welcome mat."

I nodded my head in agreement, "I'll have to tell mom that some stranger found the key and broke in."

He shook his head, making his hair sway from left to right, "Don't do that! You'll give her a heart attack."

"Yeah," Derek added. "You know she would lose her mind if she thought we were in any danger."

"Relax," I laughed. "I'm kidding."

"Sure, kid," Uncle Joe smirked at me. He knew how I was. When I was younger, I would alway pull pranks whenever family was over. "How was school?"

Derek dropped his backpack on the floor next to the counter and walked over to the refrigerator, "Same as always."

Uncle Joe folded his arms over one another, "Staying out of trouble?"

Derek and I both laughed. "Was that a serious question?" I asked.

"No. I know you two are troublemakers. That's part of the reason why I'm here actually."

"Okay..." I trailed off. Either we were in deep shit or he was just trying to scare us. "How long have you been here?"

"About an hour, I was hoping your mom would be here."

Derek turned around with a slice of mango in his mouth, "Is something wrong?"

Uncle Joe shook his head, "Uh no, I just wanted to speak to her." He checked the time on his watch. "I have to go, but it was good seeing you guys," he started heading towards the front door.

"You too. Will you be back?" I asked as I scratched my neck.

"Yeah, most definitely," he smiled, opening the door behind him. "Tell your mom I was here alright?"

I nodded my head, "Okay."

He waved at Derek and me, "See ya."

Once the door closed, I sat down at the counter and pulled out my phone from my pocket to check my messages, "That was a little weird."

"Yeah," Derek chuckled. "Anyway so how about Kalel?" he asked, leaning his elbows on the counter as he continued to eat from the bowl of mango slices.

"What about her?"

"Are you gonna go after her and play one of your mind games?"

I scrolled through my unread text messages, "I don't know, maybe."

"Oh," he said shocked before finishing his last slice, placing the bowl in the sink. I looked up from my phone and watched as he walked to the freezer to get out a frozen pepperoni pizza. He unwrapped the pizza and got a pan from one of the drawers before placing the pizza on it.
