"You're getting better."

At that, Iris arched an eyebrow and spun around in her seat to stare at Remus.

"Really?" She asked, annoyed, pointing at her own owl, Alden, who sat in front of her, untouched. "Because it doesn't seem like it."

"But swear it almost changed." The boy responded to which Iris answered with a dry laugh.

"I'm horrible at Transfiguration, Remus..." She whined, leaning against the tree underneath which both of them were studying. "I'm going to fail. If I get an A in the OWLs it will be a bloody miracle."

Noticing his owner's distress, Alden moved closer so he could snuggle up against her chest. Iris smiled gently as she petted the owl in appreciation.

"That's not true." Remus insisted. "You just need a bit more of practice."

With a flick of his wand, the owl in Iris' lap turned into the opera glasses he was supposed to turn into. The girl scoffed, as she cradled the glasses closer, waiting for Remus to turn it back into her pet.

"Practice you say..." She mumbled and with a squeak of pure indignation, Alden was back to his form of a Barn owl. Iris petted him again and the owl melted under her touch. "I've been practicing since bloody First Year."

"And you're making progress." He said. "How many times have you scored an E?"

"But that's different, Remus. It's the OWLs we're talking about."

Remus frowned at the girl as she kept looking down, not once her fingers leaving Alden' feathers as the owl almost hummed in satisfaction.

"Are you scared?" He asked. Iris sighed.

"Are you not?" She answered, looking straight at him.

Remus held her stare for a while, but the more her bright green eyes dig into his, searching for an answer, the more he realized he was indeed scared. It was his turn to look away.

"I'm not scared of the OWLs." He said, admitting it for the first time, looking at the Lake in front of them to avoid glancing at the girl who was, for sure, looking at him. "I'm scared of what's coming next. After we leave this place, you know?"

"Yeah, I'm scared of that too." She nodded. "Do you know what you're going to do? After all this, I mean."

Iris watched as Remus opened his mouth, but closed it again. She should've expected it. They were fifteen and they were supposed to be deciding what they wanted to do for the rest of their lives? Iris didn't even know which color was her favorite one, how could she decide a profession?

"The guidance with the Head of Houses will start next week." She said, after a moment of silence.

"Already?" He asked, turning to face her, as she nodded.

"It's good, I guess... Maybe Professor Sprout will be able to help me."

"I wanted to be an Auror." He said.

"Really?" Iris almost glowed as she felt something deep from inside her stomach and up all the way toward her chest. Was it pride? "You can do it, Remus. Why don't you want it anymore?"

"I've realized I wouldn't be able to do it. Not with my..." He stopped talking and coughed. "Condition."

He didn't know, but Iris understood. She smiled gently and reached over to his hand, squeezing it lightly.

"You'd be a great Auror, though." She offered. "I think you shouldn't give up, but I mean... It's your decision, after all."

He smiled back at her, happy for her support. As he was about to say something else, another voice cut him off.
