"I don't get one bloody thing about History of Magic!" Camilla groaned annoyed for what felt like the hundredth time.
"If you had decided to study early, you wouldn't be struggling so much!" Iris responded, as she snatched the parchment Camilla was – supposed to be – writing her summary of History of Magic and almost ripped it all when she realized the girl wasn't even at the beginning. "Well, if you don't study, you won't get anything!"
"But it's just so hard..." She moaned and Iris rolled her eyes.
She looked at Dorcas, expecting some help from the brunette girl sitting beside her at the Library, but she didn't even look up. Iris frowned. Dorcas loved History of Magic. And she loved studying it. Iris was expecting her to reassure her best friend – crush – as she usually would've done, but since that particular day after the Quidditch game, they hadn't exchange more than the necessary words, such as good morning, yes and no. To be honest, it was getting in Iris' nerves.
And the worst of all is that, since the beginning of the year, Bambi also had started to pull away. Most of the time she didn't even was around anymore. And when she was, she barely spoke, just as it was happening now. She was beside Camilla, but she was focused on her Herbology book, not even bothering to give an opinion.
"Oh, for the love of God, Milla..." Iris huffed, trying her very best not to be rude with her best friend. "If I give you my notes, will you stop whining?"
"Yes." She pleaded. "Por favor..."
Iris nodded and closed her Potion's book, placing her quill over it gently.
"Wait here then. I just have to go to my dorm real quick, yeah?" She asked and Camilla nodded.
Iris left the Library and headed toward her Common Room. She reached for the ends of her hair to play with it, but she didn't find any, as, as usual, she had pulled it all up in a bun so it wouldn't disturb her middle study.
But if she was being honest, it wasn't the hair disturbing her studies. It was the silence around them. The way Dorcas and Camilla were almost ignoring each other... The way Bambi was pulling away... The way she, herself, was pulling away from the Marauders, to make sure they knew she wasn't happy with the neglect they showed when she said those spells were Dark Magic. The only person she could turn to right now was her sister but, more often than not, she was busy with her boyfriend Severus, and Iris – already bitter and annoyed all the time – would rather suffer alone than fight with the Slytherin and hurt Lily.
So over the last few weeks, Iris would go either to the Astronomy Tower or the Restricted Section of the Library so she could deal with her melancholy and the stress over the upcoming O.W.L.s alone.
Pushing those thoughts aside for at least that moment, Iris reached her dorm and searched for her History of Magic summary. When she'd found it, she made her way back to the Library, sat on her previous place by Dorcas, placed the summary in front of Camilla and dived back into studying Potions.
They stayed like that for a while, the four of them in silence, each one reading a book and studying a particular subject. That was when Dorcas broke the quiet.
"Irie?" She called, leaning over toward her best friend.
"Yeah?" Iris answered, her eyes still glued to the book in her hands, causing her to miss the way Camilla's own eyes jumped up and alert at the sound of Dorcas' voice.
