"Lily!"
At the sound of her voice calling for her, the red haired girl turned around to greet her. She got up from her place beside Severus and ran to meet her sister halfway, in the middle of the King's Cross Station.
"Iris!" She laughed as both of them wrapped their arms around each other. "Oh, it's so good to see you!"
"It's great to see you too. How was summer?" Iris asked, a big smile making its way to her lips.
The girl kept looking at her sister as she talked. It was true she wasn't paying attention to her, but she had her reasons. She knew everything she was saying. They shared a lot of letters and that included one on the day before, so she wasn't really that interested in hearing about how Petunia and Lorraine were still mean and how Vincent was still ignoring the whole situation that day after day broke his family apart. And besides, Iris was trying to figure out how Lily had managed to change so much.
Last time they saw each other, they were very alike. The only differences between the sisters were Iris' glasses and freckles. But now, it was almost as they weren't even identical twins anymore. Lily had grown at least three inches, as Iris had grown close to none. As they stood in front of each other, Iris barely reached her sister's chin anymore. Lily's skin was quite tanned as well, and Iris' still held that pale tone that just made her freckles that more evident. Even Lily's hair color seemed to have changed. It was still flaming red, but it somehow looked brighter if compared to Iris' strands.
"And about you?" Lily asked, as she finished talking.
"Oh, nothing much. You know everything." Iris shrugged. Lily shook her head.
"So you really are a prefect, are you?" She mocked and Iris pretended to be offended.
"Are you doubting my capacities?" She asked.
"No, no... I've always believe in you. I just want to see your Badge. You know for... Scientific proposes."
"Yeah, sure." Iris rolled her eyes with a smirk. Still, she reached for her back pocket and pulled the yellow Badge out, giving it to her sister.
Lily squealed in delight and Iris laughed. Lily placed the shiny thing over her sister's chest, as if confirming if it looked good on her.
"You know what being a prefect means, though, right?" She asked, still looking at the Badge.
"Well, of course." Iris said. "It means I get to use the special bathroom on the Third Floor."
"Iris..." Lily rolled her eyes. "I'm serious... You'll have to stop getting yourself in so many detentions, you know? You have to be an example now, Irie."
"Well, first of all, I know that, thank you very much." Iris smiled at her sister as she crossed her arms over her chest. "And second of all, all my detentions happened because I was defending either me or my friends, so really, I have no fault..."
Lily glared at her and she stopped talking. She looked back at Severus and he got his message. Getting up from his place, he grabbed his and hers trunks and took them toward the Train, as Lily gripped her sister's hand and walked in the other direction.
"So... You and Severus, then?" Iris mumbled.
"Oh, yeah... He's sweet and he makes me quite happy, so... I don't know." She shrugged.
"You don't have to explain anything to me." Iris said, shaking her head gently. "Just know that if he ever breaks your heart, I swear I'll hurt him."
"Irie..."
"I would've said it to any boyfriend of yours, really, you know that." Iris interrupted her sister before she could give her a scowled. "It just happens that I don't like Severus that much, so you know... He does have a disadvantage..."
Lily opened her mouth to protest, but decided against it and just shook her head. Iris looked around and noticed that they were both heading to the first compartment of the train.
"Lils... Where are we going? This is the..."
"Prefect's compartment." Another voice interrupted her and she smiled. "Now, I can see why Lily is here, but you... aren't you at the wrong place?"
Remus looked at Iris from head to toe and back again. When their eyes met, he smirked. Iris tried to roll her eyes, but for some reason, she couldn't bring herself to take her eyes from his form. He too had grown over summer, which meant that now h could easily tower over her. Remus had always been the tallest one in his group of friends, but now, Iris was sure James could barely reach his ear. With her modest 5 feet, she had to crane her neck to stare in those green eyes that she had grown so familiar with over the years.
"For your information, Remus..." Iris said, as soon as she found her voice once again. "I am a Prefect as well."
Remus looked quite surprised and glanced at Lily. The older twin nodded with a smile, before he looked back at Iris.
"Why are so surprised, Mr. Lupin?" Iris raised an amused eyebrow at him. "I didn't expect you to be a Prefect either."
"Didn't you?" He mused. "Who did you expect to it to be, then? Sirius? Peter? Oh, maybe James?"
Iris bite her lip as she smirked, realizing that, even if Remus was always behind the pranks he and his friends were so famous for, he was always hidden. No one would ever say he was the brains of every single one of them. And besides, he did have some good grades.
"Guess you're right." Iris shrugged.
The train whistled, signalizing it was almost time to go. Lily gripped Iris' arm and pulled her forward, into the compartment, walking past Remus. The boy soon followed and they sat down together, as they talked, sharing stories about their summers.
Some other kids were around. The fifth year prefect's from last year were there, but now, as sixth year prefects. Two for each house - a boy and a girl. Iris always thought that placing 24 people in one compartment was insane, but now, as half of them were already comfortably sat she realized how silly she had been. Of course the prefect's compartment would be huge. They had this and many others privileges. And now, Iris could add herself in that group.
As soon as Remus finished a story about his meeting with James and Peter during summer, the compartment door slid open and in came the eight people that were missing. The head boy and girl from each house. The ones who were supposed to tell them what to do and how to it. As they sat down and started to talk, Iris tried to pay attention, but somehow, her eyes kept glancing back at Remus and Lily and each time they met, they smirked.
"D'you reckon a prefect can give detention to themselves?" Iris whispered as one of the head girls spoke, leaning over to Remus in order to make sure she hadn't been heard.
"Dunno. Why?" He asked, doing the same so their heads were only inches apart.
"Just curious." She shrugged. "But I guess you'll have to do it many times, right?"
Remus stifled a laugh, before bumping his arm gently on hers.
"Like you won't." He responded.
"Oh, well..."
Iris smiled, before sitting back in her normal position and looking at the Head Girl still babbling, pretending to be listening.
This year was going to be interesting.
