"what?!"

"did you?" boyd repeated. "we're not mad, we just want to clarify it."

"yeah, we did."

"oh. okay. good to know."

ryan looked over at brendon next to him, brendon looking extremely embarrassed.

as for cassidy, well, she was just plain losing her mind from laughing so hard.

"cassidy deanna urie! this is a serious matter!" bellowed grace, cassidy then trying to calm down.

it didn't work.

she couldn't stop laughing.

they both just gave up at this point, brendon even sneaking in a little chuckle.

"well, thank you for being honest with us, ryan. most people would deny it if parents asked," said grace.

"but, we knew. grace found a condom wrapper in brendon's room the other day."

"oh. well, it's probably better that you guys know than brendon and i trying to hide it and you guys catching us in the act or something."

"agree. anyways, grandma, how was your drive?" brendon asked, desperately trying to change the subject.

"it was good, thank you, brendon."

"no problem."

the dinner lasted an hour more, it mostly just consisting of brendon's family embarrassing him and ryan explaining his life. it was harmless, though. no dangerously suggestive sayings or any risky talk. well, at least not this time.

"ryan, i'm going to miss you."

"we have that trip with spencer and jon at 8 in the morning tomorrow, fucking idiot."

"it's still about ten hours without my ry."

brendon wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, ryan burying his head in brendon's neck and giving it a small kiss.

"you could stay."

"i have to finish packing or else you know i would, brendon, but i've gotta go. i love you a lot!"

"love you lots, too!"

ryan got into his car and drove off, brendon walking back into his house.

brendon was lying on his bed scrolling through instagram when he got a notification.
