Mitch's POV

After the doctors had assured us that Y/N was going to be fine, we were getting ready to escort her back to her apartment. Hurley and I stood by the door as her father told her goodbye.

"I'm going to be fine, dad." She sighed as he hesitated.

"I know," he said, looking over his daughter's shoulder at me. "I know you're in good hands, but. . ."

Y/N cut him off as she wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him in for a hug. I smiled when I remembered when she used to hesitate before standing next to him. After she moved in with then, she was hesitant to get close to them. At that point in her life, she'd been in an out of foster homes. She was hesitant to get close to people, myself included.

Even after they adopted her, she was hesitant. I remember sitting at the park, dragging our feet in the sand as we swung. It took me a while, but I finally convinced her that her new parents loved her. I promised her that they wanted her and would be in her life for a while. I made her the same promise about myself.

"I'll see you after the treaty is signed. Then everything will calm down," she sighed.

He pulled away, his hands still on her shoulders, and looked at her with desperate eyes. "Until then, I want you to listen to everything Mitch and Stan Hurley say, alright? If they don't feel it's safe for you to go to class, you don't go. Their job is to protect you until I come home."

"I know," she said with a small laugh. He hesitated before pressing a kiss to her forehead. He gave her one last hug before turning around and walking towards us.

"You have nothing to worry about," Hurley said as her dad walked over to us and shook his hand. "Your daughter is going to be fine. You have my word."

"Which I can take as law," Mr. Walker joked. He looked towards me and smiled. "It was good to see you again, Mitch." He said shaking my hand.

"You too, sir." I nodded. He let go of my hand and my eyes immediately drifted towards Y/N. "She's going to be fine, I promise. I won't let anything happen to her."

"I know you mean that," he said as I looked back at him. "You always do."

Before I could respond, he gave Hurley another nod and left the hospital room. I looked over at Y/N and bit my lip. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Hurley look between the two of us. He cleared his throat, making me look towards him.

"You two ready?" Hurley asked, looking between the two of us.

"Yes, sir." I said, reminding myself that this was a mission and nothing more. Y/N glanced over at me before nodding at Hurley's question.

"Alright," Hurley said, brushing off the sudden tension between Y/N and I. "Everything is going to be fine. What we need you to do is simply follow us. We will handle the rest."

Y/N nodded as we began leading her out of the hospital. I felt my nerves on edge, them jumping every time I felt Y/N's arm brush against my own. I looked at her to see her nervously biting her bottom lip.

I reached over and grabbed her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. She looked up at me, a weak smile on her face. "Nothing is going to happen," I said under my breath so only she could hear. "Even if something does, I promise you are going to be okay." Y/N didn't say anything as we entered the elevator.

We had gotten out of the hospital and to the car without any problems or signs of a potential threat. As we drove to Y/N's apartment, I noticed Hurley continually checking the rearview mirror.

"What?" I asked. He looked at me before looking back at the mirror.

"It's probably nothing," he said under his breath. I sent him a look before turning in the front seat to see what he was staring at. My eyes narrowed when I saw a familiar black SUV following us.
