Shawn puts his hands around my waist, lifting me up and placing me on his lap. As soon as I straddle his lap, I can feel his hard-on poking me through his wet jeans. I lean in, pressing my lips against his. I work my lips slowly against his, wanting to take in this moment as much possible. Even before Shawn and I broke up, things weren't all that good between us. Neither of us ever addressed it, but there was definitely a sorts of tension between us, and not the good kind.

Shawn's hands rest on my butt. He doesn't do anything; he doesn't slap it or grope it. His hands don't try to pull on my hair or lightly
choke me. Instead, he just lets his hands rest on my butt and lets me enjoy the feeling of him simply being there. It's oddly nice. Shawn lowers the seat back slightly so that instead of sitting up straight, he's leaning back and the position feels both more natural and more comfortable.

We spend the next half hour like this, just laying there and making out. At one point, Shawn turns the car off to save gas and we move into the back seat to give us more room. We don't progress past slowly yet passionately making out. Neither of us attempts to move it along to other more intimate, hot and heavy things that we've done together in the past. We don't give each other hickies or grind into one another, no matter how much our hormones may present us with the urge to. Instead, we're both content with the simplicity of making out in the back of Caleb's Jeep.

It reminds me of the much, much simpler days of when we first started to develop feelings for one another. When we didn't have the luxury of parents being hundreds of miles away at home and had to worry about them constantly walking in on us in the act. When we had to hook up in school or in the car or anywhere we could, really. In a way, I miss it. It added to the thrill of the chase, while now, the only thrill we have is when one of us fucks up and does something to piss off the other.

Things get so much more complicated as you get older.

"What does this mean for us?" I ask quietly. Shawn looks down at me, my head resting on his lap as he sits up and plays with my hair.

"I don't know." he answers truthfully. "I guess we have to figure that out."

"We clearly want to get back together, but I feel like the universe is rooting against us. My own best friend is repulsed by the idea of us together again."

"Really? Repulsed?" he laughs.

"Okay, maybe saying she's repulsed is a bit much..." I admit. "But she's definitely against it. "

"Julia isn't either one of us, though. If she really is your best friend, then she'll be happy for you; she'll be happy for us.."

"True." I sigh. "I'm still scared."

"Why?"

I sit up, squirming my way between Shawn's legs. I rest my back against his chest, his chin falling onto the top of my head and his arms wrapping around me.

"Don't take this the wrong way," I begin, already feeling him tense up under me. "but I think we're both mature enough to admit that the two of us in a relationship creates the most immature relationship in the world."

Surprisingly, Shawn laughs. A deep, throaty chortle erupts from him and his body shakes as he laughs. I can't help but smile, a sense of happiness creeping inside me as I recognize his laugh as one of genuine happiness rather than sarcasm and mockery, as I've been so used to hearing lately.

"Well, you reacted to that better than I ever could've imagined." I say. Shawn laughs once more, leaning more and kissing the back of my head.

"I'm sorry, it was just really funny the way you phrased that." He clears his throat, trying to become serious once again. "But no really, I get what you're saying."
