"Um, I'm going to go sit then." I mumble, walking past Shawn and heading up the bleachers. I walk until I reach the very top, finding an empty area with enough room for Caleb when he finally decides to join us. I sit down, Shawn plopping down right next to me. Of course; I don't know what I expected.
I try to lean back and rest my body against the bleachers, but the metal against my bare skin is too much to handle. I lean forward again, wrapping my arms right around myself as I try not to shiver. I don't know why I thought wearing a short sleeved shirt today was a good idea. Granted, the weather told me that it was supposed to be warmer than usual today, but then again, the weather always seems to lie.
"Are you cold?" Shawn asks. I shake my head.
"No, I have goosebumps because I'm sweating." I say sarcastically. Shawn doesn't laugh like I expected him to, making the situation even more awkward than it already was. Whoops. "I'm joking." I say, trying to ease he tension.
"I know." he replies, making it even more worse. How could something already downhill continue to go down even further?
"Uh, okay..." I reply, looking away from him.
"Helaina, now I'm joking." he says. I can hear the smile in his voice. "Well, I was being serious about knowing you were joking. So I guess it was sarcasm, actually."
"This might be the most awkward conversation I've ever had." I say.
"More awkward than the one you had with Kennedy after she walking in on you giving me a blow-"
"Caleb! You're back!" I practically scream, cutting off Shawn, who's snuggly smiling beside me.
"I'm back." he says, evidently unsure of why so I'm so excited about his return.
"What did Julia say? Does she run soon?" I ask. Caleb sits down next to me, handing me a pamphlet. I open it, seeing it lists all of today's events. I scan the paper and find Julia's name listed in the second event.

I stop reading after Julia's name. I glance down at my phone, seeing it's only 11:04. We still have another half hour before Julia runs. This is going to be a very long day.
"Why did she tell us to come at eleven then?" I groan, handing the pamphlet back to him.
"She probably didn't know the order of events." he shrugs. "At least she's soon. She could've been running later since this is until three."
I nod, realizing he's right. I go to lean back again, but the second my body touches the metal, I recoil. Damn it, I forgot how cold it was.
"Do you want my sweatshirt?" Shawn asks me. I'm surprised by how blatant he is, but at the same time, I'm not. It is a very typical Shawn move, after all.
"I already told you I'm fine." I insist.
"Helaina, just take the fucking hoodie. You're obviously cold." he says, his words harsh but his face soft.
"Fine." I give in. I'd rather not get into it with him when Caleb's around. He's not used to Shawn and I's bickering, and things are already weird enough between us. Shawn shrugs off his jacket and lifts the black hoodie over his head before handing it to me. He puts his jacket back on while I pull his hoodie on.
