"I think we might've just joined worlds with somebody else."
The group went silent, pondering the statement.
"How could there be other worlds?" Hazel mused. Annabeth shook her head.
"Not exactly other worlds, but- like, other realitys? Think about it: the mortal world has no idea we exist. Maybe we don't know if someone else exists?" She asked, looking around the group. Jason rubbed his forehead tiredly.
"I guess so.... if they had some form of mist then it could make sense that we've never seen them before....."
Percy nodded in agreement. "Alright, so. If there are other villains or monsters out there from these alternate realitys, then there should be someone to fight them. I guess our next move would be to track down these other heroes."
The group muttered their agreement.
"Thats great, if we knew how to track them down. Currently, our main lead is an exploding angel. I don't know about you, but I really don't feel like going up to them and asking who normally kills them." Leo said, as jubilant as ever. Piper rolled her eyes and cuffed the back of his head.
"Thanks, Leo."
Frank interrupted her. "Leo is right. Those angels are our only lead, and I do not think they're a good one."
Percy sighed. "So we're left with tracking down people we have absolutely no way to track." He muttered. Annabeth grabbed his hand.
Leo suddenly groaned and rolled on his back. "Gods, I miss the argo. If we had her, we could just go looking for the other heroes."
Annabeth looked up. "That's it!"
"What is?" Jason demanded.
Annabeth's grey eyes swept the group. "We go looking for the other heroes! Frank, Hazel, Leo, those angels were in broad dayligght, right?"
Hazel nodded.
"And there were mortals in the area, right? Did they see the angels?"
Frank modded. "Yeah. Screaming and running around like there was no tomorrow. Why is this important?"
Annabeth leaned forward, eyes sparkling. "Because, that means that the mortal world knows about the monsters of at least one hero! We could track them through the mortal world!"
Percy's eyes lit up and he plated a kiss in her head. "Good thinking, wise girl."
Jason helt up his hands. "Wait, you think we can track the other heroes throught mortals?" He asked in disbelief. Annabeth and Percy nodded.
"If mortals saw those angels, you know what they would do? They would talk about it! Internet articles, newspapers, on the news!"
Jason nodded. "It might work..."
An hour later, the group found themselves spread across the area in various stores or on street corners. Percy and Annabeth were in the computer store, Piper and Jason were in the library, Hazel and Leo were asking people on the street, and Frank watched carefully as an eagle from far overhead.
Annabeth was bent over a laptop, with Percy watching over her shoulder. He watched as she started up google. The screen immediately flickered and went black, and she frowned. Percy leaned over and smacked the screen.
"Odd. Should it be doing that?" Percy mused. Annabeth snorted.
"Obviously not, seaweed brain. I think having two demigods around might be overloading it. How about I stay here and you find a computer over there?" She pointed an aisle away, and Percy nodded and ambled over to the next row of computers.
He chose a slick black laptop and started the browser. This time, it flickered but stayed on. He searched angels, but nothing of importance came up. Frowning, he entered exploding angels.
Nothing.
He but his lip and glanced at Annabeth. She was glaring at the computer, deep in concentration. He sighed.
Exploding people? Why not.
He entered it and clicked on the first result.
"Annabeth!" He called. "I got something!"
She glanced up and then, with a furtive glance around the store, joined him. She frowned when she had finished reading the article on the computer.
"People with burnt out eyes and insides turned to crisp.... sure sounds like what happened." Percy muttered.
She nodded. "Yeah, so now what? The case ended as dead, apparently. They even had FBI in on it. Wait....."
Percy frowned and glanced at the screen. "Why would they bring in the FBI? According to this, there are plenty of deaths like this. A bit odd to suddenly get involved in this one, right?"
Annabeth grabbed the mouse from him and clicked on pictures of the scene. It showed the corpse, with burnt out eyes. There were also a few with the area, surrounded by tape. Several people were standing around.
"There." Annabeth said, and pointed at two men in the backround. They were holding up badges to a police officer.
"Those are the FBI?" Percy asked. "They don't look very official."
It was true. One of the men had brown hair that was somewhat long, and the other had a lopsided grin on as he showed his badge. The grinning one was staring at the other man, as if he had just told a joke. Annabeth squinted at the screen.
"Something about them isn't right. Hold on....."
She started a new program and took the picture of the two men. A face search started, and she leaned back and stared at Percy as it loaded. He met her eyes and grinned at her for a moment before placing a kiss on her lips. She relished it for a moment before pulling away and turning her attention back to the screen. The faces had matched up with several others. Percy whistled.
"Man, these guys sure do like their murder cases. Look at all those pictures!"
"Look at their badges in this picture. It's different from that one." She said. Percy brushed against her as he leaned closer to the screen.
"Different names? Why would they go by different names?" He asked.
"Because they aren't in the FBI. They're fakes. They go around to the different scenes pretending to be Feds so that they can see the murders. I think we may have just found our heroes, seaweed brain."
Percy kissed her head as she printed out several pictures of the two men.
"Good job, wise girl. Get back to the others, or look for those guys?"
She checked the time. "We have time. Do you want to walk around and see if anyone knows who these guys are?"
He nodded. "Sure." She picked up the pictures and grabbed his hand as they walked out of the store.
They had barely made it to the corner when they met up with Leo and Hazel, who took half the pictures and walked around asking the people on the street if anyone had seen them. Percy and Annabeth also stopped by the library, where they gave a picture to Piper and Jason. Then they walked around the town, asking if anyone knew the two men.
The sun was sinking below the horizon before they finally got an answer. They were on the outskirts of the nameless town, asking around. An old man on his porch had taken one look at the photo and then shot a suspicious look at the two teens.
"And what d'you two want with them?"
Percy cleared his throat. "We need their help."
He squinted at Percy and then shifted his gaze to Annabeth, who straightened.
"We've been attacked by creatures who said they were angels of The Lord."
The mans eyebrows shot up. Then he pointed a gnarled finger at the two men.
"These here are the Winchesters. Dean and Sam. Good boys. Haven't seen them since their old man was around. I've got their number somewhere, if you like...."
Annabeth nodded. "Thank you, sir."
