Chapter 3:

***In Gibbs Car***

Bishop was thinking why was Gibbs and herself in the same car. Usually, it was her and McGee in the car and Tony and Gibbs in the other. She was also thinking about Jake. It has been what 2, no, 3 years since she left Jake, and never turned back. Could it be a coincidence that Jake was at the girl's death and at the coffee shop?  No rule #39: There is no such thing as a coincidence.

"Bishop? Bishop? Earth to Bishop?" Gibbs called; they were already halfway to the navy yard. "What?"  Bishop asks coming out of a thinking state. "Are you ok? You just zoned out again. McGee told me that you zoned out earlier. So, are you ok?" Gibbs asked now more concerned and worried. "Oh, it's nothing boss..." She managed to get out, muttering under her breath and gave a fake smile, before they pulled into Gibbs favorite diner. "What are we doing here?" Bishop asked as she exited the car.

***In the Diner***

"Well, I know when you are lying Bishop. You give your best fake smile, but I can see through it." Gibbs says taking her into the diner sitting in his booth and grabbing a menu. "So I thought if I would buy you lunch, you might open up, but you don't have to if you don't what to," Gibbs says and looks at Bishop and gives her the I am concerned for your well-being look.

"Hello, Gibbs! The usual I presume?" The nice waitress asked Gibbs. He nods yes. "And for you miss?" She asks Bishop. "Hmm. I will take 3 pancakes, 1 Belgium waffle, bacon extra crispy, and... some white toast. Thank you!" Bishop says handing her the menu. The waitress walked away astonished that a girl that small could eat so much.

"So..." Gibbs asked Bishop. Bishop started thinking maybe that she should tell him about everything. "Ok, I will tell you because you are the only father figure I have here in D.C. and I think of you as my second father. As you know I don't open up much but I saw Jake." She blurted out and started to tell him the rest of the story. How she had a gut feeling, Seeing him the first time, and then running into him at the coffee shop and all of her thoughts. "Now that you know the whole story will you not tell anyone?" she says finishing her bacon and pancakes. "Of course and Bishop..." Gibbs started. "Yes," she said. "I would never let anything happen to you." They finished lunch, paid and headed to the navy yard.

***Back at the navy yard***

Gibbs and Bishop exited the elevator to see the team working on the case. Gibbs walks in and says "Report! DiNozzo go." Gibbs said getting to the point. "Victim: Elizabeth Smite, 15, daughter of Naval Captain Peter Smite and Dr. Tori Smite..." DiNozzo stared and McGee picked up. "We are thinking that it was a murder..." But he doesn't get to finish when Ducky comes into the bullpen. "What have you got Duck?" Gibbs asks as he walks up.

"It was definitely murder. On the victim's back, we can see indentations or handprints, but the prior M.E. missed them and said it was a suicide." Ducky says showing the x - rays. "They seem to be the size of a male: 5'8 - 5'9 and 150 - 160 lbs." Bishop suddenly stepped back, at hearing this information, and tripped over her backpack falling to the ground. "Ellie!" McGee says lunging to help his partner up. "Are you ok?" Gibbs said helping her up. "Yah, just a scratch on my arm and Gibbs can I talk with you for a minute?" Bishop asks just as Gibbs phone...

Ring! Ring! Ring!

"Yes... I will be right down Abbs... Bye." Gibbs answers. "Ok McGee, look into bank statements and other reasons why someone would want to kill an innocent girl and DiNozzo call the parents and any friends that knew her and bring them to the conference room. Bishop you and I are going to see Abby."

They all went to do their jobs. Bishop and Gibbs went to the elevator. Bishop almost immediately pulled the emergency lever and look at Gibbs. "That is the same measurements as Jake." She said holding back the tears. She thinks to herself Why is she crying it's been 3 years? Gibbs pulls her into a comforting hug, knowing all of the pain he put her through. He cheated on her with an old coworker and now he comes back as nothing happened.

What will Gibbs do about Ellie and her situation? Will the rest of the team stay in the loop? Did opening up do Ellie good?
