"Okay. Who's going up first?" Jason asked, patting the ladder, "only go up one at a time, this house is older than all of us combined so there's no telling when this baby will collapse."
"That's comforting." I frowned.
Jason laughed.
"I'm not used to people, sorry," he rubbed the back of his neck and gave a nervous smile, "it won't collapse on you. I've just got a weird sense of humour."
Nobody moved since Jason's 'sense of humour' made us all feel very uneasy. For all we knew, he could've wanted to murder us.
"Oh for fuck's sake, move out of the way!" Bebe tutted, flipping her hair out of her face as she grabbed onto the ladder.
She began climbing, her curls bouncing with every step upwards. She lost one of her heels at one point, but kept on going as if she hadn't noticed. When she reached the top, her other heel fell off.
"Pieces of shit," she muttered, "can someone bring them up for me?"
Clyde grabbed her shoes and climbed up after her, then Tricia, then me, with Jason following us.
The attic was dark, with a small round window at one end that let in very little light, especially since it was night. The walls were coated in thick dust and the two had drawn smiley faces and played noughts and crosses in said dust.
The floor was actually pretty clean, with the exception of a few squashed bugs and discarded tissues scattered here and there.
The bed was merely a couple of mattresses pushed together with a stained blanket and pillows thrown carelessly on top. I presumed they simply hadn't made the bed that morning, but I didn't know how long they'd been there so maybe it was just a rushed job when they decided to settle in.
"Is this it?" Bebe wrinkled her nose.
"Yup." Jason nodded.
Bebe took her shoes from Clyde and slid them onto her feet, suddenly silent. I knew she was secretly disgusted but didn't want to say anything, which was weird for Bebe. She was always brutally honest about everything, so seeing her keeping her opinion to herself was new.
Someone coughed awkwardly.
"Does anyone know what time it is?" Clyde asked, "I really need some sleep."
"One sec," Jason knelt down to the ladder hatch, "Hey Kevin! How far has Savanna moved?"
We heard an annoyed groan as Kevin walked outside to check on Savanna, whatever that is.
Eventually Kevin yelled back "twenty one feet."
"It's around nine o'clock," Jason informed us, "we've got a zombie tied up outside that moves really slow. It takes roughly an hour for her to move a foot."
Clyde flopped face first onto the bed and groaned when he realised how soft the mattress was. Only the top half of himself was on the bed, but he pulled the blanket over himself nonetheless.
"Night." He mumbled into the bed.
Tricia leapt at the bed and created a loud thud when she hit it. She grabbed a pillow and shoved it under her head, then grabbed the blanket and pulled it over her so quickly she pulled it off Clyde.
