Mikaela stayed quiet while she worked, shelving the books carefully. She stood on the ladder and moved her arms about slowly, making sure not to topple over and injure herself. When she found that she had to reach a farther spot than normal she quickly reached for it, only for the ladder to wobble. She shut her eyes as she felt herself falling, but found arms catching her gently. When she opened her eyes she spotted a young silver haired man who wore an eye patch. She nodded her thanks to him and moved away, picking the ladder up from where it fell.

"Not going to say thanks?"he asked. Mikaela stiffened. She turned and tapped her throat twice. "Mute?" She gave him a thumbs up. "Hm, is that right?" She gave him an odd look and stood back up, picking some of the books she'd dropped up with her. When she turned back around the guy was still there. She stared at him. Can I help you dude? She wanted to say, but knew she couldn't. She clutched a book in her hands tightly. He watched her with interest. "Listen. I'd like to speak with you privately later. You won't mind, right? I have a question for you. Please meet me after you get off, I'll be over in the park across the street. Right beside the bridge that goes over the creek." Mikaela stared at him. She sighed silently. And nodded once. "You're nice. That's good, I think he'll enjoy that. Thank you." He was murmuring the first part to himself so low she couldn't hear it.

He turned and walked away, leaving her alone. She blinked after him. I hope he won't try and ask me out. He doesn't look like my type. She turned and kept at shelving her books. Aside from that, I'm not really sure if he's safe. I'd better take my can of pepper spray. His downside is his eye with a patch, he won't be able to see.

Mikaela sighed hard, turning back to the books. Her brow furrowed. This is out of the ordinary, though. It's not normal for someone to approach me and ask to speak with me away from work. Mikaela began shelving the books. Then again, it's not normal for someone to speak to me at all. I'm not exactly a welcoming sight, I suppose. She flipped her brown hair over her shoulders again, moving the ladder to where she needed it. Whatever. I'll take my notepad so I can turn him down.

After her work let her out, the 23-year old woman left the library, her backpack hanging off her shoulder. She double checked it before walking down the sidewalk, making sure her phone and everything was in it. Mikaela wasn't ever often away from home, however she made sure that when she was she had a bag packed with essentials. She turned, continuing down the sidewalk towards the bridge she was told to go to. She waited for the crosswalk light to change and headed across it once it had. Mikaela spotted the strange silver-haired man waiting over by the bridge.

She walked over and stopped beside him. She peered out over the bridge he was looking over and frowned. That would be an awful fall. She leaned back upright and looked at the man. He turned, grinning at her.

"Thank you for coming. Tell me, have you ever felt you don't belong in this world?"He asked. She stiffened. Mikaela thought hard. She pulled out her notepad and pencil from her pocket. Tell me about it, she thought to herself.

"Meaning what exactly?"She wrote. He read it. He nodded to himself.

"Well, I mean, your abilities of course." Her eyes went wide. He can't know about that, it's impossible. She gave him a mock smile.

"What abilities? Being mute?" His eyes scanned the line over. He chuckled, crossing his arms.

"Let's be real here, Mikaela Hawthorne." She stiffened, her eyes going wide. He knows my name? She wondered. She opened her mouth to say something, almost forgetting that she shouldn't talk. She immediately clamped her mouth shut. He grinned at her, leaning down, his grey eye focusing on her blue ones. "I know about your ability, and why you refuse to speak to anyone. It's not hard to get, you put two and two together and well..." Mikaela frowned, looking down. She swallowed. She quickly scribbled down on her notepad.
