I stood next to Thomas as the keepers surrounded Ben, their sticks aimed and ready to corner him into the maze. Thomas' arm was around me, more for his sake than mine. No matter how many times I told him otherwise, he still believed it was all his fault and he was angry with himself. Nonetheless, he knew he had to be there to comfort me as I insisted that I'd watch. I owed Ben that much. As Ben began backing into the maze, his gaze flickered to me and Thomas and I saw how tired he was. He looked sad and annoyed.
"Y/N! " he cried, "Tom! Please help me!"
I flinched as he repeated these words, getting more frantic each time.
"I'm sorry" I mouthed, "I love you"
"Love you too" he mouthed back, then turned to Thomas, "Love you bro"
Thomas nodded in response and wiped his eyes. "Love you" he mouthed.
The boys stepped in one final time and Ben entered the maze, with the doors slamming shut. I sighed, sadly and watched as the boys laid their sticks against the wall. Newt looked sad and he was the only one still holding the stick. I hugged Tommy and walked over to Newt.
"Hey" I mumbled.
"Y/N" he looked up at me, shocked, "Sorry, you frightened me"
I shrugged, "It's okay"
"Are you okay?" he asked, stroking my cheek gently.
I shrugged again, "I don't really know"
"That's understandable" he smiled sadly, "You just watched your brother get Banished."
"Yeah" I said in almost a whisper.
"Shuck, I'm sorry" he murmurs, pulling me towards him, "I should've tried harder to stop it"
"No, Newtie" I mumble, "It's not your fault. As I said to Tommy, it's those shanks, the Creators"
"I should've fought more!" he answers, wrapping his arms around my waist, "I know how much he meant to you. I love you so much and I hate seeing you so upset."
"It's not your fault!" I repeated, firmly, "Stop putting yourself down! I love you"
I lifted my head slightly so that my lips touched his. He kissed back, hesitantly, pulling me as close to him as possible and running his hand up and down my back comfortingly. Someone behind us cleared their throat and Newt pulled away, shooting them a murderous glare. I turned to see Gally, looking guilty.
Me and Gally stood in my Homestead, with Newt waiting cautiously outside, ready to come in and beat Gally to death if he hurts me.
"What do you want Gally?" I asked, coldly.
"I wanted to apologise..." he answered, carefully, "I should have taken your side. Everything you said, I deserved"
I said nothing, just signalled for him to continue.
"And you were right. Ben was always there for me and always stood by me" he went on, "I admit, I was being very selfish. I was too wrapped up in my own pride to notice that you were hurting. And I wanted you to know, that I'm so sorry."
I wiped a tear from my cheek and nodded, smiling sadly. I rushed into his arms, sobbing softly.
"Everything's gonna be okay" he whispered
