the sky was dark and the highway lit up by streetlights and head lights. a couple cars drove past in the blink of an eye as we sped to, wherever the hell we were headed. I hadn't spoken to tom in hours. literally not even when we stopped for petrol on the way or when we grabbed something to eat from a service station. neither of us were tired or wanted to stop and so we continued to drive into the night. my heartbeat had returned to normal and for a sweet half a second I forgot why I was driving and just enjoyed the fact that I was alone for once, with my music, my clothes and my silent but blissful company.
it was early hours of the morning by now and the coffee had not left my system and I was some what grateful, I felt awake and really awake none of this 'I wish I was dreaming' crap, I was awake and happy about it and believe me that has never happened before. tom on the other hand wasn't doing so well. the car rang again and I answered "feeling tired mr agent man?" I said sounding a little childish, with not a care about it. "yes Louisa i'm tired, there should be a b'n'b around here somewhere we will stop there for the night"
"tom we passed the b'n'b half hour ago there's a hotel just up the road we'll have to stay there" I could hear him huff and the eye roll that followed was expected and not at all subtle. "so much for low-key" I laughed at him unable to hold it back "your the one who wants to stop" I said as a plan that I would much rather be able to disagree to formed in my mind.
"I have a plan so we dont get caught but believe me you might hate it" he scoffed "lets just get there first shall we, before we call your madness a 'plan'" the air quotes clear In his voice, he's lucky he was in the other car other wise I would have punched his nose again. I mean yes that seems a little harsh but with the amount of insensitive comments this guy comes out with, you wouldn't mind giving it a second go. the call ended and we sat in silence as we drove another 200 yards until we were in front of the hotel. it was not exactly low-key but it wasn't exactly five star either. I grabbed my purse from the passenger seat grabbed the gun and stuffed it in and zipped it up. I sat in the car waiting for tom to pull up beside me as he was struggling to park the car. I rolled my eyes and got out anyway.
"what space to tight for you?" I mocked and he winced at me. though handsome he was a massive pain in the ass, his ass wasn't too bad though- hey!
I slapped myself out of my inner thought argument and realised we were at the door. he stood there looking at me like a lost puppy. "what?" I said waiting for him to go in first or at least open the door for me. "whats the plan?" he grumbled I smirked knowing this was going to be more a problem for him than for me. I took the ring off my middle finger and placed it on my- you guessed it- ring finger. he watched with a raised eyebrow looking very unimpressed. "you got a better idea?" I said tilting my head as I looked up at him. he sighed deeply and opened the door.
"this way 'my love'" he mocked the last of his sentence to prove my point but the hidden glimmer in his eyes said he was actually enjoying this a little bit, which was cute but also creepy as, well this morning happened. we strolled up to the counter fake smiles on our faces me trying to talk him into playing along and him saying it was a stupid idea, we got to the counter and started laughing. "your so rude!" I said easing my smile so it looked genuine. his still looked forced. "sorry about that" I sighed playfully rolling my eyes. "no worries how can I help you?" I nod "yes we need a room-" I started with a wink and she giggled, she was clearly young and inexperienced. "we have had a long drive and need to sleep" I said with a flirty smile, tom tried to cut in but she ignored him and stared straight from my eyes to my chest as I leaned over the desk and grabbed a pen to sign a visitors book. I used scruffy handwriting ad gibberish to create our names.
"yes thats £130 for the two of you mr and mrs-?"
"Coulson" I said smiling, tom payed and she handed him the key for room 220 and we trudged upstairs in silence. "really? you couldnt have had some dignity there could you? flirting with the registration woman?" I laughed "please your just jealous because she was enjoying what I had and you didn't, I bet thats never happened to you has it?"
"what a woman steal the attention from me and onto herself, no not really" he lied, the tone of his voice was clear, something lied deep in a story he wasn't willing to share "yeah right" I scoffed walking faster up the stairs as we reached our floor. he ran after me chucking me the key. I opened the door and stepped into the small hotel room. it was decorated with black and white wallpaper with a cream carpet, a single double bed, small flat screen and a mini fridge. "its very-" he walked in behind me and was inches away from my back "small?" he said, I could feel his warm breath against my neck as he talked down to me. "intricate" I spun wincing at him. "dont be ungrateful tom you wanted low-key right? well here you go" I said proudly as I flopped down onto the bed. he laughed. I just noticed the small loveseat under the window as I crawled under the covers. "we're not far now" he said staring coldly out the frozen window. "where are we going?" I questioned but got no answer except "somewhere that isn't here, its need to know and all you need to know is to follow me" I rolled my eyes and turned onto my side closing my eyes.
I could feel the bed lower beside me, I opened my eyes slightly to find his back facing me. I huffed and turned to face the window scooching backwards so I wasn't on the edge until his warm back pressed against mine. I scooched forwards suddenly feeling very awkward.
Sleep came easily that night, the mattress beneath me was beyond comfortable. It may have came easily but it was just as easily taken away.
Tom shook me awake wildly, my eyes opened slowly as I wondered what the hell was going on.
He stuffed a gun onto my lap as I sat up and pulled me out of the bed and into the bathroom.
There was another door leading into the hall strangely. He had both our bags and a gun his eyes showing no fear nor mercy."Tom what the hell is-"he placed his hand over my mouth shutting me up instantly. He opened the door slightly looking out to make sure the coast was clear. I clutched my gun my grip tight around the cold metal. He nodded removed his hand from my mouth stepped out the door with his gun ready . I did the same with a bad feeling come over me. Tom practically tiptoed to the stairs as I turned to find a young guy looking just as baffled as me.
I pointed my gun at him as he did me and we both stood there for a moment debating with our eyes who was going to shoot who or well, whether we were both just gonna run.
I panicked and shot him in the leg as he turned to face the door. About 7 large guys ran from our hotel room and charged at me as tom pulled me under his arm and ran down the stairs.Bullets flew at us like birds who hadn't eaten for days had spotted (us) chips on the beach.
