Emma walked in the supermarket at the immediate beginning of Calum’s shift, eager to see him after thier meeting last week.
He had told her that he started his shift at noon but part of her wasn’t surprised that he was late.
Emma strolled over to the all too familiar aisle with her eyes scrolling through the many colors shd had burnt my scalp with. The ones she went through once, twice and some thrice up until her eyes stopped over at a color she have never used before.
Pink.
She wasnt sure if she purposely avoided it or just never felt in the right state of mind to consider it because it happened to had been Anne's favorite color but it maybe she could do it for that exact reason.
"Recognized your hair all the way from my car." A familiar voice spoke from behind her.
Emma spun round on her heel and stepped back because of the lack of distance between them. "Are you ready to remember another one?" She joked quietly, still staring at the pink box
"My friend dyed his hair that shade before. It doesn’t seem very... you, though."
"Ah, but the thing is Calum, you don’t even know me."
She stared back up at him, his eyes reading into hers uncomfortably. "I do, not as much as I wish too, but I do."
Emma smiled weakly back at him before gesturing towards to till.
"What’s the rush?" He asked with a side smile.
"Well I mean I sort of have to get home and well-"
"Shh, come on." he dragged my hand and led the way towards the back to the store. Normally She would have objected but she was there a lot earlier than usual and this week wasn’t particularly terrible so maybe her blonde could last a bit longer than usual.
Calum stopped at a back room with employees only written on the very white door. "Won’t you get 8n trouble for this?"
"The manager doesn’t come out anyway. He just sort of stays in his office secretly watching The Hills or something." He joked. Emma laughed softly as he opened the door and unlocked the next one in front of it, finally opening the final door to reveal a neon lit room filled with large posters with promos on them and boxes of unstacked food.
"Why is this the prettiest place I’ve been in?" She asked him, still not taking her eyes off the busy scenery.
"The lights sort of do that to you."
He sat down on a box labeled CHIPS and crossed his skinny jeans adorned legs.
"You can sit if you want. The candy works as a chair and a snack." He smiled.
"Won’t they realize some are gone?"
"Probably not."
"Probably?"
"Probably."
Emma smiled down to the ground and asked God to help her now.
As she walked into the supermarket she would have never envisioned finding herself thinking about something other than the moment she could wash everything off but then again, time was slipping away and they were starting to stop calling and everything was getting a bit lighter and he just happened to be the best part of it.
