Very Hungover

Emma walked through the seemingly loud automatic doors, cursing herself even more for letting Calum take her out for a drink last night. She knew she didn’t have much to spend and told him it would just have to be one or two but this boy didn’t know the meaning of restriction.

She was well aware of how much of a light weight she was and clearly stated it to him but he ordered beer and after beer, glasses after glasses without so much as my consent. He survived that situation with merely a buzz while Emma wasnt even sure how she got home.

Her eyes quickly diverted towards the laughing boy in his chair at his closed till before he stood up and made his way towards her with two coffees in hand, ‘’I’m sorry but you look terrible.”

“What? I thought my messy haired and black glasses combo was a turn on.”

“Maybe a little.”

She  laughed with him and made her   way to the hair dye aisle. “Have you ever considered highlights instead of getting rid of you know, the whole thing?” he asked, crossing his legs on the tiled floor.

“I mean I guess but sometimes it just nice to have something new.”

“Oh, okay then.” He dismissed

As her eyes raked over the many options mindlessly, her vision blurred slightly from the lack of concentration on reality but on by thoughts as this week was replayed in my mind. Maybe she didn’t want to rid my mind of those memories yet, it had been the best/easiest week she had to go through since she died and  wasn’t ready to let go of the feeling.

“Why not.” She spoke up, grabbing silver box off a new side of the display.

Calum looked up at me and smiled, pushing himself of the ground painfully ungracefully.

“Great! Can I do it for you?” he asked, “ I mean I help my friend dye his hair all the time so I think I’ve got the hang of it. Just fewer strands than normal.”

Emma laughed and made her way towards the till listening to him go on about his friend who was apparently names Michael.

He finally lead her to the male bathroom and locked it behind him. “So this is what It looks like, huh?”

“After its been cleaned by unfortunate Murray, yeah.”

She passed the urinals, putting as much space between it and her as possible, making her way towards the sink. “So you bend over here,” He joked but she did so anyway.

She felt Calum's hands massage her scalp, rinsing bits of the weak pink dye out. It was a weird feeling to have somebody touch my hair again; to have somebody else’s hand around my neck, I flinched as the sensation but held on to the fact that he would never do that to her.

“Are you okay?” He asked putting his face near Emma's. She opened her eyes and the unwanted tear slipped out, dropping into the puddle of uncollected water.

“Yeah, it- there’s just water in my eye.”

He looked at her skeptically but  she turned back, seeing him lift himself up from the corner of my eye and tear the box open.

She  braced myself for his hand to touch my neck again. To slide against the healed skin and not have any idea of what had reigned there.

Emma began to regret her decision greatly. He was usually the one to make her forget but now, he was the only thing bringing it back.

She  needed to dye her hair. Highlights wouldn’t be enough. Maybe It'll mean washing the laughs and smiles but it would be worth it.

But to get out there and collect the hair dye would mean having to explain to him why she changed my mind, and bring up the inevitable questions Emma managed to drive him away from and that would be a lot more painful.
